About the Role & What We Look For

Our Engineering Team has built software for hedge-funds, VCs, and some of the largest companies in the world. We are focused on building tools that make investing easier and delight our community.

We are looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to join our Product Engineering team.

As a Senior iOS Engineer at Commonstock, you are a seasoned professional (5 years of experience in a software engineering role) with specific experience on iOS, architecting, designing and implementing apps. You consistently write production-ready code. You will have experience in or be interested in building consumer-facing products and social platforms. Some examples of relevant experience include: social feeds, chat services, forums, or video streaming sites. You know the human interface guidelines well and love implementing pixel-perfect UI designs. You have an extensive grasp of current iOS technology. We also expect you’ll be proficient with systematic debugging and utilize abstractions and code isolation effectively.

We’re a remote team, so communication is extremely important to us. We expect all of our team members to communicate clearly, respectfully, and concisely in both written and verbal form.

As a Senior iOS Engineer at Commonstock, you are someone who operates with strong empathy to our users and is interested in building finance and investing-related products. In this role, it’s essential that you approach all engineering work with a security lens, understanding the sensitive nature of the information our users trust us to keep secure. 

Successful members of our iOS team have strong time management and task prioritization skills. As a Senior iOS Engineer, we’ll also expect that you will prioritize making economical decisions using a robust cost benefit framework. You will anticipate and communicate blockers, delays, and cost increases as early as possible.

While it’s critical that all our team members demonstrate leadership qualities and personal integrity, it’s especially important for our more professionally experienced team members. Though this role is an Individual Contributor, a Senior iOS Engineer is an experienced hire. The person who fills this role should be a role model within our organization. There is significant opportunity for the responsibilities of a Senior iOS Engineer to expand, and we invest in the growth and development of all of our teammates. To that end, we expect the person who fills this role will facilitate open discussions within their team, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to be heard. They will seek out mentoring opportunities to share their expertise. They will hold themselves accountable for decisions and outcomes and help to foster alignment on achieving team goals. They will regularly consider team practices and processes, seeking to continuously improve our organization. This person will be involved in discussions about the engineering organization’s strategy, participate in roadmap feedback with the product team, and be integral in helping us simplify product and technical design.

• We’re a small, Series A company of < 50 people. If you don’t have experience working at a smaller firm or prefer a larger team, we’re probably not the right place for now.
• You prefer to work with close mentoring. We’re growing rapidly and looking for self-directed folks who can hit the ground running. 
• You prefer to work in person. We’re a remote-first team and plan to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
• You prefer to avoid ambiguity. We’re an early stage firm: there is and will be a lot of ambiguity as we grow. Your role might shift over time and product priorities can change quickly. This is a fantastic environment if you love flexibility, but might not be right for you if you like lots of structure. 
• You love rigid processes. We’re focused on speed and try to avoid bureaucracy wherever possible. 
• You prefer operating to building. It’s really important to us that each part of our team has experience creating from scratch.
