We are seeking a visionary and inspirational leader to serve as a Finance Director providing financial, accounting and fiscal controller expertise!This position is responsible for financial management of the budgeting and forecasting processes, financial analysis, accounting, reporting and compliance with financial regulations of a non-profit organization. The Finance Director works closely with the CFO and other leaders to ensure continuous quality improvement in fiscal processes, development and implementation of effective policies and accurate reporting models. This role will serve as a strategic partner on the leadership team to identify areas to manage costs and liabilities and ensure the financial health of the organization.
A successful Finance Director will be a team player with strong interpersonal communication skills and an aptitude for establishing and sustaining positive relationships, creating consensus, and motivating people. They will be mission-driven with a strong background in the non-profit sector, experienced with grants, funding sources, and work well in a fast-paced and hands-on environment.

This position may work onsite or in a hybrid model.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Financial and Accounting Operations

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees all accounting systems and prepares financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of business; reports significant budget differences to management; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or US GAAP financial reporting standards.
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Provides financial analysis of budgets, procurement, and contracts.
  • Prepares the financials of the organization in order to meet legal requirements and keep the financial state in good standing
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • As a part of the leadership team, lead the generation of innovative ideas that are sound and progressive, challenge the status quo, and foster creativity throughout area of responsibility.
  • With fiscal team, creates, evaluates, and updates fiscal processes and risk management review.

Annual Appropriation Plan and Budget

  • Oversee the annual budgeting process, including preparing the budget, and presenting the budget in various public meetings to the community and to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Manage all accounting and budget activities and provide fiscal information as requested.
  • Assists CFO in submission of Indirect Rate to appropriate fund source or entities.

Supervision

  • Oversees the operations and provides supervision and assistance to fiscal staff related to fiscal reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, staff and participant payroll, including payment of all benefits and taxes and associated reporting; ensures proper policy, procedures, and practices are maintained.
  • Be able to challenge, negotiate and influence the team
  • Mentor and cross-train all employees in the department.
  • Selects, hires, and develops finance department staff to ensure accurate and timely performance.

Partnerships

  • Works closely with internal partners and program leaders. Assists with important financial decisions; provides strategic direction.
  • Under the direction of the CFO, develops and maintains collaborative and cooperative working relationships with appropriate fund source and community partner staff.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.

EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTSRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or Business Administration
  • Seven years or more of related experience
  • Experience managing a team of employees
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and cultural competency
Preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation
  • Master’s degree or MBA
  • Experience in non-profit financial management or federally funded programming
  • Ten years or more of related experience
