Description

Summary

The Director of Nursing’s (DON) duties will include all Nurse Manager duties in addition to the following:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality nursing care in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Health. The Director of Nursing will have oversight and supervision of nursing staff and general medical concerns throughout the campus, be available 24/7 and ensure adequate staffing. 

This position facilitates the execution and delivery of strategic goals and best practices, enhancing nursing care services, improving clinical quality and safety, process/performance improvement, developing nursing teams, and ensuring successful recruitment, retention and succession for nursing, medical assistants, and direct care professionals. This position monitors and oversees compliance of customer service, stakeholder relations, workforce, and financial goals and objectives as developed by the Executive leadership. This position is responsible for serving as a role model to staff across the system and representing our organization in a positive manner both within and outside the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assess each patient’s individual needs based on assessment and data collection to ensure proper admission.
  • Implement doctor’s orders, administer specified medication, monitor and record vital signs, and maintain medical/ nursing records.
  • Maintain current licensure and/or credentialing. Maintain CPR/FA certifications and MOAB annual training. 
  • Utilize electronic medical records (EHR) effectively and efficiently.
  • Work collaboratively with Recovery Support Specialists and guide medical interventions if needed. Observe patients and document their responses to treatment.
  • Communicate with all staff on a regular basis regarding patients’ progress and treatment plans.
  • Admit patients per the admissions criteria.
  • Perform client screening, intake, orientation, and assessment functions necessary to complete admission. 
  • Assist in urgent/emergent situations.
  • Follow all COVID-19 procedures.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Discharge patients in accordance with established policy.
  • Carry out administrative procedures in accordance with program and PHNE policies and procedures.
  • Perform client screening, intake, orientation, and assessment functions necessary to complete admission. 
  • Consistently enforce rules and programmatic procedures. 
  • Ensure client confidentiality in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Maintain RELIAS learning requirements and DATIS files. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President or other Senior Executive. This is not intended to be a complete list of all duties and expectations.
  • Provide nursing care to patients as necessary.
  • Provide shift coverage when necessary.
  • Provide supervision and guidance of all nursing staff in accordance with organization policy.
  • Ensure nursing services comply with internal, local, state and federal policies and regulations.
  • Develop and coordinate orientation and training programs for nurses.
  • Coordination of staff training 
  • Oversee/monitor/Quality Improvement all nursing/medical processes for residential programming.
  • Oversee all Temporary Disability/Family medical Leave of Absence paperwork for all clients.
  • Maintain medication and medical stock of all units.
  • Along with Director of Nursing, perform retrospective audits on all medical charts.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining all schedules and coordination of callouts.
  • Oversee medical interventions throughout the campus.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining all nursing and recovery support schedules and coordination of callouts.
  • Has 24 hour a day/seven days a week responsibility, and is available for, nursing services, emergencies, staff support and patient crisis.
  • Demonstrates support for and models teamwork by personally working cooperatively with peers and subordinates towards the achievement of system wide goals and objectives. Publicly recognizes and encourages intra and inter-departmental team efforts and accomplishments.
  • Develop and coordinate orientation and training programs for medical and non-medical staff.
  • Along with Director of Nursing, provide support to providers to enhance compliance with CPT coding/billing/documentation. Including training support for the electronic medical record. 
  • Order and maintain medical supplies and medications.
  • Oversee nursing and related disciplines’ documentation, quality improvement, including retrospective chart audits, and utilization review process compliance. 
  • Oversee medical interventions throughout the campus.
  • Assist in the development of new policies and procedures. 
  • Holds staff accountable for achieving goals and performance targets. Works with them to identify and resolve the most complex issues and problems affecting initiatives and operations. 
  • Coordination of CPR/FA training for all staff. 
  • Develops staff to ensure continued professional growth and to provide the competencies the company needs to support its growth and long-term success. Articulates and demonstrates an expectation for continuous quality improvement utilizing processes that include consideration of all stakeholders. Fosters an environment that focuses on processes and outcomes
  • Responsible for completing and submitting any medical or nursing incident reports per the PHNE procedure. 
  • Provide support to providers to enhance compliance with CPT coding/billing/documentation. Including training support for electronic medical record. 
  • Supports effective budgeting and capital planning in conjunction with financial management to ensure planned revenues, expenses, and/or overall financial goals are met.
  • Coordinate with other program areas/leaders and senior management as appropriate according to the organizational structure.
  • As requested, prepares reports and analysis showing progress and adverse trends with appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Develop and maintain effective organization of responsibility, including efficient recruiting, training, coaching, recognition, workflow patterns, performance standards, delineation of duties and responsibilities, staffing levels and supervision
  • Listens and responds to stakeholder concerns; provides leadership in resolving stakeholder conflicts and disagreements.
  • Works effectively in collaboration with physician leadership partners and all members of the senior leadership team.
  • Challenges and inspires all colleagues to constantly achieve higher levels of care, safety, customer service, and financial performance
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining all nursing schedules and coordination of callouts or overseeing designee in this capacity.
  • Ensure all significant medical incidents are reported according to organizational/State policies and regulations.
  • Work effectively and in partnership with all departments and as part of the Leadership Team to help ensure appropriate coordination between medical, administrative, and clinical services to patients to support organizational mission and vision.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals in the provision and improvement of patient care.
  • Project a professional image to the public. Dress in a professional manner.
  • Maintain Human Resources files within the current HRIS platform and complete e-learning requirements in a timely fashion.

  • Knowledge obtained through attainment of applicable state Registered Nurse’s license.
  • Extensive knowledge of the daily operations of a not-for-profit substance use disorder treatment facility.

  • Nursing degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.

  • Skill in patient assessment and implementation of nursing protocol.
  • Skill in representing the organization internally and externally.
  • Communication skills both written and verbal as well as the understanding of the principals of communication in multiple directions, vertically, horizontally, and laterally.

Education/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in nursing Preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill obtained through attainment of current Registered Nurse license for assigned program and five years of nursing experience.
  • Skill in assigning and directing work as evidenced by two year of supervisory experience.
  • Skill in med-surg care as evidenced by two years of experience.
  • Knowledge of detoxification services as evidenced by at least one year of experience in a detoxification setting.
  • Knowledge of mental health services as evidenced by at least two years of experience in a mental health setting.

Knowledge of Medical assisted treatments

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid IN Registered Nurse license.
  • Maintain a valid CPR certification
  • Pursuit of CARN or holds a CARN

  • Business-related travel may be required
