Marketing and Communications Manager

Shift: Various hours and days including nights, weekends, and holidays

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Created or Revised Date: 11/7/22

Pay Range: $70,000-$86,000 Annually

What You'll Be Doing: 

Under the general direction and supervision of the Administrative Director, the Marketing and Communications Manager oversees the development and implementation of robust marketing initiatives and strategies for the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District. This position is responsible the development and execution of internal and external communications across all channels to promote the mission and awareness of the District. In addition, the Marketing and Communications Manager will have direct oversight of the Events and Marketing Specialist and is responsible for the development of campaign strategies, sponsorship initiatives, and the annual departmental budget.

  • Drive brand awareness and engagement with a variety of stakeholder groups by developing and executing effective marketing communications strategies 
  • Utilizes sophisticated computer programs to design and publish a variety of written and multimedia content including the seasonal activities guide, videos, logos, graphics, newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters, press releases, presentations, etc.
  • Maintains brand integrity across all marketing initiatives and communications; provides marketing and branding direction to staff to ensure brand consistency throughout the organization.
  • Manages the District’s social media presence on District website and all additional social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor, LinkedIn, Yelp, Google,) 
  • Produces valuable and engaging online content that attracts and converts CVPRD’s target groups; responds to customer responses and inquiries in a timely, professional, and grammatically correct manner
  • Develops and authors various internal and executive communications, including presentations, announcements, and newsletters, to be delivered across various communications channels. 
  • Responsible for the acquisition and management of photos and graphics for the website, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Publishes the seasonal activities guide which is produced three times per year; responsible for developing written content, managing staff contributions, ensuring deadlines are met, editing, and managing the production and distribution.
  • Produces and directs video productions 
  • Manages the District’s website, generates new content and monitors functionality, optimization, ADA compliance, and appearance based on District brand standards.
  • Proofreads and edits marketing materials and written content
  • Responsible for the coordination and execution of the District’s special events; manages the District’s involvement in community outreach events and activities.
  • Work to identify and implement sponsorship opportunities within the community via partnerships with the Town, City, Chamber of Commerce, community stakeholders, and local businesses to support advertising needs and meet annual revenue goals. 
  • Responds to inquiries by patrons and members of the public on behalf of the District
  • Manages all marketing and special events contracts and contractors; ensures top performance and delivery of quality work from team members and volunteers.
  • Manage, prioritize, and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Possess the knowledge of grant application processes and preparation of supporting documentation. 
  • Think creatively, present ideas clearly and concisely, gather and analyze relevant data and trends, and work as a collaborative team member to deliver marketing materials to staff promptly. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools and local government agencies, major employers, media, and other community groups to encourage partnerships and participation in parks and recreation programs. 
  • Evaluate service costs, identify operation efficiencies, practice sound fiscal management, and prepare an annual department budget.
  • Have direct management of the Events and Marketing Specialist including interviewing, hiring, training and development, delegating departmental tasks, and performance evaluation. 
  • Build and implement marketing campaign strategies. 
  • Attend board meetings and study sessions as needed. 

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business or closely related field; any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills may be considered.
  • Three years of experience in budgeting, staff evaluation, and personnel supervision.
  • Certified in Basic CPR or the ability to become certified within 90 days of hire
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in marketing, communications, business or related field
  • Experience in photography, videography, and editing software
  • Experience in event planning

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties are performed with minimal supervision in a general office environment. Most duties are performed with typical office equipment during typical District operating hours.
  • Some duties within this position may require some physical strength and ability. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, feel, or finger; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
