Capital District YMCA is Hiring a Food Service Director Near Kattskill Bay, NY

Under the general direction of the Senior Program Director, the Food Service Director manages all functions of food service preparation, delivery, and the dining hall facilities at YMCA Camp Chingachgook.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual operating objectives and plan for annual food service. Monitor the achievement of these objectives taking appropriate action to ensure they are met.
  • Serve as the head chef for the majority of meals and must ensure the food service operations meet all state and local regulations
  • Develop, monitor and administer annual budget (income and expense) for the department and assigned programs. Ensure that the department maintains a positive fiscal position.
  • Manage staff and volunteers – recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and evaluate. This includes following all policies, procedures and time frames of the Association.
  • Oversee food service purchasing and facility development.
  • Oversee all food service related special events.
  • Participate and support all CDY special events and fund raising activities, including Annual Campaign, annual membership drives, branch fundraisers and open houses.
  • Assist in development, planning and implementation of the North American Camp Food Service Conference, hosted annually at the camp
  • Develop and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations in the community that support the mission of the YMCA and the quality of the camp food service program.
  • Ensure the proper care and maintenance of the facility, equipment and supplies used under their responsibility. (Includes Lewi Lodge and Slingerland Pavilion)
  • Ensure all Department Operations are consistent with the association procedures. This includes safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, HR and Payroll procedures, accounting, and maintains appropriate logs and records.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the facility as a member of Clean Team.
  • Report all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests and other employees.
  • Other duties throughout the association, as directed.

Job Requirements (Include education, experience and specific competencies)

  • Associates/BA/BS in Food Service Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in food service management, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • Preferred two years’ experience managing staff.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid and ServSafe or willing to be trained.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office platforms such as Outlook, Word & Excel.
  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of kitchen related appliances and tools
  • Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and its capacity to build strong kids, families and communities.
  • The ability to articulate and model YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time and not become distracted. Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear noises and distress signals. Must be able to see and use a computer. This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors, and may require occasional travel to the various branches/sites of the Capital District YMCA.
