Canlan Sports is Hiring an Operations Supervisor Near Scarborough, ME

Canlan Ice Sports is currently looking for an Operations Supervisor

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for plant operations, facility and ice maintenance, scheduling, supervising and training of staff, ordering supplies, all within established approved budgets. This is a hand’s on leadership role, actively involved in day to day facility operations.

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional

  • Perform maintenance tasks in accordance with local building and fire codes
  • Responsible for Ice Maintenance tasks including:
    • Zamboni operation
    • Edger operation
    • Ice depth measurement
    • Ice chopping/spudding
    • Levelling the Ice
    • Ice Painting
  • Execute maintenance and repair of facility fixtures and components. Tasks may include but are not limited to minor electrical/plumbing/drywall repairs, painting, dasher board system repair, arena glass replacement, hockey / net refurbishing
  • Develop and maintain proficient computer skills in Ameresco Asset Planner
  • Perform vacuuming, auto scrubbing, waxing and buffing in line with established floor care procedures
  • Ensure that entrances, grounds, and parking lot are kept clean, clear and safe including:
  • Property & grounds cleanup
  • Grass cutting and edging
  • Seasonal snow and debris removal
  • Re-lamping of rinks or other fixtures
  • Perform minor maintenance on facility and ice maintenance equipment including:
  • Zamboni safety check, clean and wax
  • Safe blade changes and grease machined as needed
  • Change studding, tired, oil and spreader cloth as needed
  • Maintain appropriate checklists, records and reports with respect to:
    • Utility readings
    • Zamboni sign out / safety check
    • Washroom, dressing room and other janitorial check lists (e.g. lobby, arena)
  • Maintain and monitor the ice plant regularly and take appropriate actions as necessary for safe operation, maintaining logs with readings (as required) and keeping appropriate notes on the following:
  • Charge oil to compressor
  • Drain Oil
  • Add Brine / Glycol
  • Test for minor ammonia leak
  • Adjust condenser water levels
  • Clean condenser nozzles
  • Record any maintenance carried out
  • Record ice plant temperature and pressure readings
  • Maintain cleanliness and repaint as required
  • Change condenser fan belts
  • HVAC filter and belt change

Health and Safety

  • Adhere to all Risk Management policies and procedures
  • Participate as a member of the facility Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Is a main point of contact in emergency situations and is aware of all emergency contact phone numbers
  • Ensure a safe working environment and a safe customer environment for the facility as detailed in the Risk Management checklist and by adhering to and maintaining:
  • Safe work practices such as those relating to lifting and carrying
  • Elimination of Slip, Trip and Fall hazards
  • Appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Report any unsafe Health & Safety conditions
  • Is trained/certified in:
    • "WHMIS" and "Workplace Violence"
  • Use of equipment and supplies as required including Elevated Work Platform and Propane Handling consistent with manufacturer guidelines and best practice
  • Ensure the proper use and safe storage of hazardous materials, tools, equipment and machinery
  • Is aware and understands implementation of the Facility Emergency Plan, Incident Reports and knows the location and how to use the First Aid Kit, Eye Wash Station and Defibrillator

Energy & Environmental Sensitivity

  • Ensure consideration for best practices in energy use management and environmental impact are employed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • Completed high school education or equivalent (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Refrigeration Operator Certification - Refrigerator Operator Certificate / Refrigeration Operator Class "B" Certification (B Ticket) as required by local legislation

ABILITIES, ATTRIBUTES AND EXPERIENCE

  • 1 to 3 years previous experience, training and operation of ice resurfacing equipment
  • 2 to 3 years of team leadership experience and strong communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Approachable and team orientated with great communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude (preferred)
  • Trade or Janitorial experience is an advantage
  • Organised, self-motivated and proactive
