: AUDIOLOGIST


LOCATION
: SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT


POSITION SUMMARY
: The Audiologist will provide itinerant audiological services to students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing. The Audiologist provides diagnostic evaluations, direct services, and consultation services to children ages Birth-21 years. The Audiologist supports children’s access to instruction through monitoring of hearing aids and other amplification/listening devices. The Audiologist works as a member of educational teams collaborating with parents, teachers, administrators, service providers and members of the community.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  • A Master’s Degree in Audiology or Doctorate of Audiology Degree.
  • A Maryland License in Audiology.
  • A Certification from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:

  • Knowledge of the field of pediatric audiology.
  • Knowledge of hearing loss and its impact on development.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer audiological diagnostic assessments.
  • Knowledge of hearing aids, cochlear implants, DM listening systems, remote microphones, and other assistive technology.
  • Knowledge of communication systems; sign language skills preferred.
  • Ability to write evaluation reports, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and 504 Plans.
  • Willingness to learn about Special Education and the IEP and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) process.
  • Willingness to learn about third-party billing such as Medicaid.
  • Willingness to learn about educational and psychological assessments.
  • Willingness to learn about the general education curriculum.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills when working with diverse groups (parents, other professionals, students, teachers, administrators, and community agency representatives).
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

  • Administers comprehensive audiological diagnostic assessments to students.
  • Writes evaluation reports based on assessment results within given timelines.
  • Monitors the use of hearing aids and other amplification/listening devices and troubleshoots issues.
  • Provides audiological services to students as prescribed by a student’s IEP/IFSP/504 including the school, home, or community.
  • Provides consultation services to classroom teachers and other IEP/IFSP/504 team members.
  • Provides services flexibly and diagnostic evaluations during the summer months.
  • Observes students and provides pertinent information to educational teams.
  • Supports students through use of varying communication modes such as sign language, visuals/pictures and augmentative/alternative communication.
  • Attends IEP/IFSP/504 meetings.
  • Develops IEPs and writes IEP goals/objectives within given timelines.
  • Maintains data and provides quarterly progress reports.
  • Completes and submits monthly Medicaid billing and service documentation.
  • Participates in parent conferences and team meetings.
  • Demonstrates initiative and self-regulation.
  • Maintains good organizational skills and professional attitude.
  • Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  • Comes to work promptly every day.
  • Works flexible hours as necessary.
  • Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
  • Travels from school to school, home visit or community setting as necessary.


OTHER JOB DUTIES
: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.) Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director of Special Education.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.


UNUSUAL DEMANDS
: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.


FLSA STATUS
: Exempt


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
: Ten (10) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.


EVALUATION
: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.


EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION
: School Year 2023-2024

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
