Job Summary

Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor, the Technology Support Specialist provides on-site and remote support to administrators, faculty, staff, and students in the College of Health and Human Services, its academic departments, centers, and programs. The incumbent provides assistance with installations, maintenance, and repairs for a variety of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and other computer related equipment. The Technology Support Specialist also provides support, maintenance, and upgrades computer classroom labs and classrooms with technology integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Support: respond to requests for technical help in a timely manner. Prioritize support activities through ticketing system. Communicate effectively with users to understand their needs and provide assistance. Support faculty, staff, and administrators regarding content, structure, and security of technology systems. Apply technical judgment to standard and nonstandard applications and systems, solving a wide range of problems. Develop practicable and thorough solutions to technical problems.
  • Computer Deployment: plan, coordinate, and execute the deployment of new and upgraded computer hardware and software. Setup, configure, analyze, repair, and maintain computers. Provide support for operating systems, productivity software, and other software used by the College of Health and Human Services. Maintain records of equipment

  • Knowledge of computer technology, ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex computer systems and be able to apply these abilities to the day-to-day support of administration, staff, faculty, and students in the College of Health and Human Services.
  • Knowledge of data and file structures, database systems and related utilities, and operating systems. This includes knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Office applications, networking protocols, Windows and Apple operating systems as this relates to providing information technology support.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field required.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

Licenses / Certificates

Valid California driver's license preferred.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,713 - $7,149 per month.

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
