Responsibilities

Califia is seeking an experienced Director of Transportation. This key leadership role within the Supply Chain team will lead the overall transportation strategy for the company. The successful candidate will direct all inbound and outbound transportation across all modes of transportation. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with various supporting teams (Supply Chain Planning, Customer Service, Sales, Distribution, and Finance), the executive leadership team and transportation providers to meet department needs on a timely basis. Key focus areas will be working with the team to deliver the company’s strategic, financial, and operational goals in a fast-paced and challenging environment. This role requires someone who has the experience and knowledge and who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

• Direct and lead the team that manages transportation needs related to the movement of both raw and finished goods across a network of 10 warehouses and co-manufacturers including international ocean and air freight shipments
• Negotiate transportation contracts and services at most advantageous costs to the company. Report on savings achieved and improvement in operational costs
• Develop and maintain KPI’s to facilitate continuous improvement in the areas of transportation management, including routing, scheduling, on-time delivery metrics, freight cost management, fuel cost management, and 3rd party carrier costs
• Work closely with key stakeholders on the execution of strategic planning for new customers, items, facilities, or other organizational changes as they relate to transportation of raw materials and finished goods
• Assess current operations to ensure existing technology is being leveraged and identify any opportunities to enhance technology use to support future growth of the company

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field. MBA a plus.
• Minimum 5-10 years of professional experience in Logistics and Transportation.
• Grocery retail, food and beverage logistics experience preferred.
• Experience with ERP and TMS systems.
• Ability to provide inspirational leadership to team members.
• Proven experience using data in a measurable way to achieve specific results that are impactful to the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills to develop, measure and improve operational and financial results.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to be a leader in leveraging new and existing technologies and systems to accelerate growth, profitability, and reliability.
• Strong leader with extensive hands-on transportation experience, including import/export, air, ocean, truckload, and LTL experience, as well as tools and techniques to achieve successful on-time delivery performance.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a proactive and constructive manner.
