Cabrini Green Legal Aid is Hiring a Bookkeeper Near Chicago, IL

Position Overview

Working closely with the Director of Finance, the Bookkeeper will be responsible for the day-to-day entry of accounting transactions. Accounts Payable will be a primary focus and assisting with monthly closing and audit preparation activities is a must. In addition, the Bookkeeper will be the point person in charge of all first draft of the monthly vouchering process, including but not limited to collecting support documentation and data entry.

Essential Duties

  • Manage accounts payable and maintain an accurate record of transactions with memos and support documents uploaded into the finance drive.
  • Professional communication with internal staff as well as external vendors.
  • Process invoices and assist with payments according to department procedures.
  • Process Universal Payment Requests for all departments as needed.
  • Assist with monthly close of financial records.
  • Assist in annual audit preparation.
  • Maintain financial records in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Monitor for monthly variances from budget projections.
  • Ensure bills are paid in a timely manner.
  • Compile monthly support documentation of all vouchers.
  • Maintain checklists and internal finance logs relative to payment and deposits.
  • Meet with the Director of Finance weekly.

Education

  • Associate degree in Accounting is the minimum required.
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting is preferred.

Experience

  • Intermediate to advanced level experience using QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience working in a professional office setting.
  • Experience working in a not for profit is a plus.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.
  • Ability to work independently.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Required Hours

29 hours per week.

Physical Requirements

  • Communicate clearly.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Must be able to handle high levels of mental stress.
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type, handle, or feel and reach. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

CGLA has implemented a telecommuter and flexible work policy that allows employees to perform work remotely at the employee’s home or at an approved offsite location. Employees must have adequate internet access to work from home. If working in the office, you must be able to work in an open office setting with moderate noise levels and follow all COVID-19 safety protocols. Employee must have reliable internet access to work remotely.
