BW Elliott Mfg Co LLC is Hiring a Maintenance Engineer Near Binghamton, NY

Description

As a Maintenance Engineer, you'll be responsible for the continuous running of equipment and machinery in a manufacturing setting. The Maintenance Engineer performs the duties necessary to keep the mechanical, and physical structure and associated equipment of the facility in good repair. This includes but is not limited to preventative, emergency, corrective, and routine repairs, in steam pressure systems, hot water systems, electrical, mechanical, fire safety, plumbing and HVAC equipment. The Maintenance Engineer will function as the group leader for the maintenance department by offering direction and support to maintenance technicians. In addition, the Maintenance Engineer will work to promote the Health, Safety and Environment along with the well-being of all individuals. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of safety processes while remaining mindful that nothing is more important than performing the job safely. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for in-depth troubleshooting and the repair, maintenance, and adjustment of all industrial production machinery and processing equipment, secondary trim equipment, and building systems. 
  • Must have the ability to recognize defects and possess problem-solving skills. 
  • Engineer and cross over absolute components and upgrade equipment with new technology. 
  • Work with NPD & Manufacturing Engineering on design and fabrication of new equipment, fixtures, and test machines. 
  • Work with outside tech support groups on troubleshooting and repairing a multitude of equipment. 
  • Coordinate with outside services on required yearly testing and inspections of facility and equipment requirements. 
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate source of trouble and potential improvements. 
  • Inspects new parts to detect imperfections and used parts to determine reason for failure and/or necessary changes in dimensional requirements. 
  • Function as a Project Manager for Large Maintenance Projects
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts as necessary. 
  • Responsible to ensure proper compliance to safety and lock-out regulations, codes, and operating requirements. 
  • Manages day to day needs of the Maintenance Department, making sure employees follow company rules and policies.
  • Assign daily tasks to maintenance technicians/helpers.
  • Create and manage PMs to the established world class standard level.
  • Coordinate the planning, preparation and execution of maintenance projects assigned to maintenance technicians or external contractors. This would include the acquisition of project materials and tools, maintaining a detailed execution check list, timely and seamless execution of maintenance projects.
  • Monitor and track the lock out/tag out (LOTO) compliance to ensure consistent adherence to the standard
  • Manage critical spare parts inventory levels to always ensure availability.
  • Act as the liaison between Maintenance & Production to coordinate PM’s and planned maintenance on production equipment and facility shutdowns. 
  • Manages predictive and preventive maintenance schedules – ensures minimal impact to manufacturing schedules (sets goals and tracks results).
  • Interprets operations manuals, manufacturer’s specifications, blueprints and schematics for manufacturing and auxiliary equipment.

Requirements

Education: 

· Bachelors or Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Experience and/or Training

  • Working knowledge of electrical control systems, motors, robotics and PLC’s and strong understanding of mechanical systems including NFPA 70E – both Machine and Facility. 
  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge in the areas of welders, draw machines, milling machines, grinder, presses, and various shop and production equipment including CNC Machines, and manual mills & lathes. 
  • Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum systems, bearings, and power transmission systems 
  • Ability to identify causes of failure through Root Cause Failure Analysis and “5 Why” approach. 
  • Preference to individuals with Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional certification. Position will require occasional weekday and weekend overtime.
  • Experience leading hourly maintenance technicians/helpers.
  • Experience using measuring devices such as a tape measure, Vernier Caliper, and micrometer.
  • Strong ability to manage and lead at all levels of the organization
  • 5 years leadership experience in a progressive manufacturing environment preferred.
