Job Summary

StoryBrand is looking for a software engineer who can help build and lead a team, design software solutions to real-world problems, and define the next generation of StoryBrand technical infrastructure.

This role is perfect for a passionate engineer with a genuine interest in building beautiful and reusable software. We are looking for someone who strives to create clean, testable, and efficient software that provides a positive experience to both end-users and other developers alike. We don’t believe that maintainable code and rock-solid user experience are mutually exclusive concepts. We recognize that ‘perfect’ is a myth and what really matters is a commitment to show up every day a little better and a little stronger than the day before.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Contribute in a meaningful way to StoryBrand’s technical infrastructure
• Write readable and maintainable software that solves real problems for our customers
• Contribute to planning and grooming discussions for technical work
• Help maintain and improve existing codebases
• Help define and improve technical processes over time
• Develop yourself and your skillset

Our Stack

• PHP (Laravel / Lumen / Wordpress)

• CircleCI & Heroku 

We are building containerized Laravel and Lumen applications with React front ends, though there are some traditional (read: blade & vanilla js) Laravel front ends we work with as well. We also support a few Wordpress installs that use a custom theme.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Modern PHP 7
• MySQL
• Javascript SPA development experience
• React / Stylus / Scss experience for frontend focused candidates
• Familiarity with writing unit tests (PHPUnit and Jest are our testing frameworks)
• Can describe the importance of clean, legible, and testable code
• Docker experience
• Kubernetes familiarity is a big plus 
• Capable of designing flexible software solutions that can be changed and maintained over time
• Constant communication and collaboration with teammates
• Ability to grow and lead an engineering team
