Burns Wilcox is Hiring an Underwriting Manager, Commercial Lines Near Houston, TX

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the evaluation, classification, and rating of risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing
  • Implement underwriting policies under the direction of the Branch Manager and ensure compliance with these policies
  • Be accountable for producing business in the assigned territories 
  • Underwrite new and renewal business
  • Be technologically savvy and data driven and develop those capabilities in their team
  • Monitor critical areas, such as loss ratio, costs, retention ratio and new business hit ratio, formulating corrective action where necessary
  • Work to become expert in classes of business written within the Burns & Wilcox office 
  • Mentor and train underwriters and assistants
  • Participate in national and local advertising, telemarketing and agency visits 
  • Assist with the development of strategic plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years of multi-line underwriting experience
  • Demonstrated experience of being a team player in a highly driven sales environment
  • Excess and surplus lines underwriting experience preferred
  • CPCU, ASLI, CIC or comparable designations preferred
