Collins Aerospace is looking for an Associate Director, Research & Technology who will have the responsibility to lead advanced technology projects and contribute to strategic enablers for the business. You will have technical / budget responsibility and will manage the personnel and activities related to the emerging technologies, technology progression, research projects and support of demonstrators. In addition, you will be a key interface to the internal and external customers as it pertains to communicating the company’s vision of the future and supporting business growth through innovation.

You will be working in a Hybrid capacity, a mix of onsite and remote from home, at either our Chula Vista or Riverside CA facilities. Relocation assistance is available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads the Research and Technology (R&T) team for Aerostructures and ensure key differentiating technologies are developed to the right maturity level on time to support the business
  • Accountable for your portion of R&T budget including OH and capex plans
  • Responsible, as aligned with your teams focus, to provide support to production
  • Responsible for supporting creation of the Aerostructures annual technology development plan, including technology roadmaps and support of Advanced Structures Technology reviews, Business Development technology fairs and trade shows.
  • Responsible for supporting the capture of new programs in collaboration with Advanced Design and Business Development
  • Responsible for supporting development a sustainability technology plan (e.g., noise, environment, emissions, fuel burn)
  • Responsible for capturing funded research opportunities (e.g., FAA, NASA, DOE, DARPA, etc.) aligned with strategic plan
  • Active representative on Advanced Structures Technology Steering Council with focus on advanced structures and specialized materials.
  • Responsible for organizing education outreach with local universities and organizations as well as defining and supporting roadmaps for universities such as UCSD, SDSU, ERAU, VT, and U of M.
  • Supports development of research and IP license agreements (e.g., cross-business unit, universities, suppliers, government, partner companies) and supports patent applications
  • Fosters innovation within engineering and R&T (3P brainstorming, creates a culture of innovation, training, identification of new technologies, license agreements)
  • Actively attracts key talent, develops employees, prepares leadership and fellows successors, creates a learning environment, and promotes diversity and inclusion
  • Able to travel up to 20% of the time domestically and internationally (dependent on home base location travel could be more)
  • Communicate and make presentations to Executives and Senior Leadership.
  • Perform other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
  • Advanced composites expertise
  • Experience in engineering technologies and advanced manufacturing
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience leading a team of engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Technical Degree
  • Experience with aircraft propulsion system and aircraft structures
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement tools and processes
  • Experience managing an offshore team
  • Experience with Gov’t funding agencies

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 139,000 USD - 277,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
