Brown Butter in Brooklyn, NY is looking for one head barista to join our team. We are located on 413 Tompkins Ave. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual, engaged and has excellent communication skills.

Compensation: $880 per week tip share

Job Summary:

As the Head Barista, you will be responsible for leading the coffee preparation team and ensuring exceptional service in a fast-paced café environment. You will oversee all aspects of coffee production, from sourcing and roasting beans to crafting specialty beverages. Your role involves maintaining high standards of quality, aiding in the recruitment process, training staff, and managing inventory. Additionally, you will create a welcoming atmosphere for customers and uphold the reputation of our establishment as a premier destination for coffee enthusiasts.

Responsibilities:

1. Leadership: Provide guidance and direction to the barista team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and upholding quality standards.
2. Coffee Preparation: Oversee the entire coffee preparation process, including grinding, brewing, and crafting specialty drinks such as espresso-based beverages, pour-overs, and cold brews. Ensure consistency and excellence in every cup served.
3. Staff Training: Help with recruiting and screening of new baristas. Train new baristas on coffee preparation techniques, equipment operation, and customer service protocols. Conduct ongoing training sessions to improve skills and knowledge among the team members.
4. Quality Control: Monitor the quality of coffee beans, ensuring freshness and flavor consistency. Conduct regular tastings and evaluations to maintain high standards of excellence.
5. Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels of coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies. Place orders as needed to ensure adequate stock levels while minimizing waste and spoilage.
6. Menu Development: Collaborate with management to develop and update the café's beverage menu, incorporating seasonal offerings and new trends in the coffee industry.
7. Customer Service: Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, answering questions about coffee varieties, brewing methods, and flavor profiles. Address any concerns or complaints promptly and effectively.
8. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that all coffee brewing equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and brewers, is properly maintained and calibrated for optimal performance. Coordinate repairs and servicing as necessary.
9. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations regarding food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, following established hygiene protocols. Aid in maintaining the overall cleanliness of the cafe.
10. Sales and Upselling: Encourage sales by promoting featured beverages, merchandise, and loyalty programs. Use suggestive selling techniques to upsell add-ons such as pastries, snacks, and additional coffee offerings.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a barista, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of coffee varieties, brewing methods, and latte art techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for providing outstanding customer service.
• Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire team members.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multitasking and prioritizing tasks as needed.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
• Familiarity with inventory management software and point-of-sale systems is preferred.
• Certification in food handling and safety is a plus.
