Description

The Surgical Technologist assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. They must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
2. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assist the surgical team in accomplishing the plan of surgical care.
3. They will be responsible for activities of patient care which involve basic knowledge of sterile technique, sterilization procedures, principles of surgical procedures, basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, use and care of surgical instruments and equipment, actions and use of anesthetic agents.
4. The Surgical Technologist ensures that all surgical policies & procedures are adhered to during all surgical procedures.

Qualifications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Work performed in hospital settings.
• Subject to long, irregular hours.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment.

• Knows and practices the requirements of the Board of Nursing Examiners Act

Education and Experience:

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program
• Current BLS Certification
• Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in operating room
• Basic computer knowledge
