What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Direct Support Professional position at Brighter Futures?
Job Overview:
As a Residential Direct Support Professional you will provide personalized care to individuals living in one of our group homes. Your goal is to engage with and be present for milestones in your clients' lives, both big and small. Your success will ensure the independence, emotional, and physical safety of the individuals in our care. This includes but is not limited to: assisting individuals with daily living, hygiene, meal prep, mobility, and behavioral supports.
General Responsibilities:
- Aid people receiving support through the implementation of the Brighter Futures Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Demonstrate respect and promote choices.
- Promote the rights of people receiving support and contribute to an environment that is free from abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.
- Follow clients' plans to achieve desired outcomes and provide supports as indicated.
- Keep required electronic and paper documentation including data tracking, incident reports, shift notes, etc. in compliance with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV through DCI).
- Assist individuals (specific to the person) with the following supports:
- Daily living
- Hygiene
- Mobility
- Encouraging relationships
- Accessing community through transportation
- Therapeutic objectives
- Skill development
- Communication
- Behavioral supports to include redirecting and/or physically supporting people using approved techniques
- Adequate supervision
- Medication and medical issues, when indicated. Shall follow medical protocols and doctors' orders to implement specialized interventions for dealing with unique health needs, as required.
- Other needs of the person as identified by their support team
- Communicate status of supports and other concerns with supervisor.
- Act as an appropriate role model and support with concerns, as needed. This may include mirroring appropriate language, dress, table manners, respect, and other behaviors, as needed.
- Ensure that individuals health and safety are maintained.
- Quickly and effectively respond to emergency and natural disasters such as fire, administering First Aid / CPR, approved medical protocols, behavior interventions, etc.
- Plan and implement meaningful activities that promote development for people receiving support.
- Attend staff meetings and other mandatory trainings as required by Brighter Futures, Inc.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older
- Minimum of High School Diploma
- Must have the ability to pass required background checks
- Reliable transportation to the work site and transporting individuals, if applicable
- Must have valid Drivers License and acceptable driving record
- Must be able to meet minimum training requirements and complete renewal paperwork, as needed
Preferred Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communicate skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, demonstrating attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Problem solving skills
- A desire and experience in working with people with disabilities or special needs
- One year of supervisory experience preferred
