About the Account Management Technology Team

The goal of the Account Management department is to translate our understanding of how the global economy works into strategy specific portfolios. Embedded within the Account Management department is a uniquely talented technology team that builds and manages the tools that allow our portfolio strategists, investors, and operations teams to create and test new portfolio strategies and logic, construct portfolios, and manifest our desired portfolios to securities we can trade in the markets.

About Your Role

The Database Engineer is responsible for architecting, building, operating and performance tuning an on-premise and cloud database platform as a service, specifically with the MS SQL Server database engine. You will need to have a high proficiency in SQL, will be doing continual reviews of current and legacy application designs, will be improving performance and stability to ensure applications are running fast and will be proactively monitoring your systems to know about problems in advance of user impact.

You Will Drive the Following Responsibilities

  • Provide Design & Engineering expertise for a centralized MS SQL Server Platform consisting of thousands of mission critical databases for financial research, portfolio management and trading 
  • Automate build and operations functionality, delivered through in-house and third party tools to achieve uninterrupted DBMS Operations 
  • Liaise with product managers and infrastructure engineering teams to integrate DBaaS into Bridgewater’s technology ecosystem 
  • Work with the database migration team to help define and refine the strategy for migrating existing on-prem databases to the cloud 
  • Provide database best practices & standards, performance testing and R&D to application developers 
  • Provide mentoring and leadership and act as technical escalation point for DBA’s and software engineers

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years experience as an MS SQL Server Database DBA and Engineer (plan, build, operate) in mission critical multi-TB database environments 
  • 5 years experience of Engineering and Automating large transactional and analytical database systems with exacting availability, security and performance SLAs including design, coding, unit testing and release management 
  • 5 years experience with other data platforms: Azure SQL, NoSQL, Data and Software Migration off RDBMS, AWS DBs (e.g.,RDS) 
  • Proven track record of database architectural design and performance assessments 
  • Thorough understanding of SQL Server database internals 
  • In depth experience of SQL Server stack on virtualized platforms 
  • High proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell Azure scripting 
  • Self-motivation and the ability to learn and apply new technologies in a fast paced environment 
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills 
  • Interested in challenges and excited by the responsibility of meeting the requirements of an exacting technology environment

Physical Requirements

This role is offered with fully-remote flexibility and can be performed from anywhere within the United States. This approach is role specific and each team will have some slight variations that we will be able to describe in more detail throughout the recruiting process.
