POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Youth Development Professional (YDP)

DEPARTMENT: Program

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Program Director

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is an important position to our staff as a vital part of delivering quality programs to our members. This position reports to the Program Director for implementing a broad range of programs within the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck (BGCNN); such as: Education, Social Recreation, Character & Leadership, and Physical Education. The YDP will be assigned a primary area of responsibility from the following list: Arts Instruction, Computer Technology Instruction, Game Room and Social Recreation Instruction, General Education through our Learning Center, and Physical Education. The YDP will plan and implement programs to members and promote a positive, fun, clean, and safe atmosphere. The YDP will maintain professionalism and show enthusiasm when interacting with our youth, parents, volunteers, staff, and others in the community. This is a part-time non-exempt position with an anticipated 20-25 hour per week schedule. While the position’s general work schedule will be Monday-Friday occasional alternate work hours will be dictated by organizational need and project completion. The YDP has the responsibility for completing the daily functions of the organization described below:

· Greet members upon arrival.

· Assist with Power Hour program.

· Keep accurate records of attendance and participation.

· Implement established Club rules/regulations to ensure health and safety of members.

· Report any disturbances or behavioral issues to the Program Director.

· Contribute to the creation of the overall Club’s climate for personal growth.

· Manage necessary administrative functions and assigned resources.

· May occasionally oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.

· May be required to drive Club van/minibus periodically to transport members.

· Will be required to attend staff meetings.

· Will be required to work mornings, afternoons, evenings.

· Will be required to work occasional weekends with at least a 3-week prior notice.

· All other duties that may be assigned by the Program Director and/or Operations Director to include: Assisting other Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck (BGCNN) teams to support daily operations on an as needed basis.

Duties of Primary area of responsibility:

· Create Weekly lesson plans for submission to the Program Director by the end of each week. Lesson plans will include a week’s worth of activities, requirements for each activity, and how each activity contributes to our Youth Development outcomes.

· Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program area/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).

· Promote and Market programs to members.

· Demonstrate Leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.

· Mentor and encourage members to help develop their self-esteem.

· Keep area of responsibility neat, clean, and attractive for members.

· Maintain inventory of all equipment assigned to area of responsibility, report any discrepancy or safety concerns to Program Director or Quality Assurance Director so that corrective actions can be made.

· Lead group clubs for members.

· Document areas/topics of interest voiced by youth.

Other Occasional Responsibilities:

· May be required to prepare for and facilitate Positive Actions sessions to assigned members in an enthusiastic manner. Will engage members in lesson activities, take roster attendance, and ensure all pre/post tests are completed by assigned participants. Reports any implementation issues to Program Director and complete appropriate evaluation form.

· May be required to prepare session materials and present it following Botvin Life Skills Training Curriculum. Will engage member in lesson activities, take roster attendance, and ensure that all pre/post tests are completed. Reports any implementation issues to the Program Director and completes appropriate online evaluation form.

CERTIFICATION/ASSOCIATION:

· Must be registered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.mybgca.net).

· Complete required assigned trainings.

· Will be required to gain First Aid and CPR Certifications.

· The ability to earn a valid CDL Driver’s License with Passenger & Air Brake Endorsement to assist in the transportation of members is strongly encouraged.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

· Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent

· Prior youth work experience in a paid or volunteer capacity preferred.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Proficient in using various computer software programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to perform duties which require prolonged standing, walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use the telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, move manipulate and or hold objects up to 25 pounds. Objects that exceed the 25-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.

Youth Development Professionals (YDP) are important to our staff and a vital part of delivering quality programs to our members. YDP's work hours during the after school time program will be between 20-30 hrs. per week Monday-Friday. Specific hours are dependent on organizational need (based on clubs Average Daily Attendance (ADA). Special events may entail varied hours not listed. This position reports to the Program Director for implementing a broad range of programs within the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck (BGCNN); such as, Education, Social Recreation, Character & Leadership, and Physical Education. He/She will plan and implement programs to participants and promote a positive, fun, clean, and safe atmosphere. YDP's will be professional and energetic in all contacts with our youth, parents, volunteers, program staff, and others in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Prior youth work experience in a paid or volunteer capacity.

2. Ability to plan activities and identify any requirements so the Unit Director can schedule accordingly. Ability to maintain that schedule.

3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

4. Knowledge of children and their interests.

5. Ability to maintain enthusiasm and positivity during all interactions with youth, staff, and community partners.

6. The ability to gain First Aid and CPR certification as well as a CDL license to help in bus transportation is strongly encouraged.

Youth Development Professionals are responsible for the following:

1. Greet members upon arrival.

Job Type: Part-time
