Working from a sincere interest in issues of social justice, William Boyce Thompson founded the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI) in 1924, believing that basic plant research could lead to real societal benefit. Over the almost 100 years since its founding, BTI has evolved to become a premier life sciences research institution, with scientists conducting investigations into fundamental plant and life sciences research with the goals of increasing food security, improving environmental sustainability in agriculture and making basic discoveries that will enhance human health. BTI, located in Ithaca, New York on the Cornell University campus, employs 150 staff, with scientists from over 40 countries around the world, and has twice been named as one of the Best Companies in New York State.

Requirements

REQUIREMENT:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to contribute to ongoing projects investigating the role of small signaling molecules in C. elegans. Duties will include cell and molecular biology techniques such as isolation of RNA/DNA/proteins/metabolites and PCR including quantitative PCR.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology or related research experience, strong GPA and interest in biochemical/biomedical research. Hands-on experience with basic laboratory techniques is highly preferred. Must have effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Must be motivated, conscientious, and highly dependable. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and protocols/procedures, and to write routine reports and correspondence. Should be familiar with standard lab techniques. Candidates interested in pursuing graduate school are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with Windows Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) is preferred.
