Overview

Responsible and accountable for the functional and financial operation of the transportation fleet, fleet mechanics, and the maintenance and repair of the fleet by overseeing and supporting key functions within the distribution department.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in related industry highly preferred, combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the completion of Associate’s degree or 60 semester units or equivalent in automotive technology required.Minimum of 5 years significant, direct, and practical Fleet/Garage Management experience in food/beverage, consumer products, manufacturing industry, or over the road transportation required. Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies, highly preferred.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build consensus and foster positive relationships in order to drive company strategy and efficient methods in achieving the lowest landed cost possible.
• Capacity to solve problems through creative, innovative solutions and challenge traditional methods of accomplishing tasks and removing obstacles.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex sets of data and make business recommendations based on analysis.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with capital and working budgets, P&L, DOT compliance, and fleet optimization required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and in a variety of cultures.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Class A or B commercial drivers license preferred. (must possess a valid Class CDL-A or B and Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with FMCSA Part 391.41 prior to operating a commercial motor vehicle for Borden Dairy Company on public roadways).
• Must have or be able to obtain all EPA licensing and/or certifications consistent with field requirements including but not limited to EPA Clean Air Act Section 608 Type II and EPA Clean Air Act Section 609 MVAC certifications within 3 months.
• Must have or be able to obtain Brake Inspector Certification as defined in FMCSA Part 396.25 within 3 months.
• Must have or be able to obtain Annual Inspector Certification as defined in FMCSA Part 396.19 within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide resources and guidance to all fleet employees as it relates to maintenance and repair of mechanical transportation equipment to aid in the distribution of all company products in a safe manner.
• Manage processes to insure the business unit has a viable and well maintained fleet, develop fleet replacement cycles, capital requirements, and priorities of asset redeployment.
• In conjunction with Fleet Director, Distribution Manager and Controller, prepare capital and operating budgets.
• Implement and drive process consistency and cross functional collaboration utilizing Continuous Improvement methodology that results in process improvement and cost saving initiatives.
• Build a high achieving garage team capable of sustaining the company’s profitability, goals, and vision.
• Provide oversight and assistance to garage operations as it relates to mechanic training, process development/improvement, PM inspections and compliance, purchasing, tire programs, fleet repairs, maintenance diagnostics, and DOT compliance.
• Benchmark and set targets for overall fleet performance and team.
