About the Role

Boom is seeking a Senior Industrial Designer to create innovative and distinctive products, environments, and experiences. You will be a part of a multi-disciplinary design team led by the Director of Product Design, where you will work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, highly creative, and challenging environment to design, prototype, and deliver world-class human-centered design solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring boundless creativity, a refined design sensibility, and a working knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes and requirements to develop and deliver products and experiences that delight users while solving tangible needs. This person will think in both broad strokes and fine detail, relentlessly champion and advocate for the importance of design, and work cross-functionally to solve problems and arrive at solutions.

The ability to work selflessly, multi-disciplinarily, iteratively, and respond constructively to ongoing feedback is critical to success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Director of Product Design and Passenger Product Experience team to translate design direction and user insights into tangible design concepts and solutions
• Create sketches, CAD geometry, renderings, and physical mockups and prototypes to communicate design concepts and scenarios, interactions, and solutions at a variety of fidelities, and at speed
• Build, manage, and update 3D CAD models and databases to support product development and prototyping
• Create presentation-quality 3D renderings of design concepts
• Manage production of mid-fidelity full-scale mock-ups and prototypes with internal and external resources
• Collaborate with partners, vendors, and customers to develop and refine design concepts and solutions
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects and tasks while delivering best-in-class design work

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 8 years Industrial Design experience in a design studio, creative consultancy, or similar
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant design discipline, or equivalent training
• Strong portfolio demonstrating elevated design skills, technical proficiency, aesthetic sensibility, and demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively, implement feedback, and manage tight deadlines to deliver outstanding design work
• “Build to think” mindset – fluidly incorporate rapid and scrappy prototyping and iteration into the design process
• Fluent in CAD modeling and 3D rendering tools, e.g. Fusion360, Solidworks, Keyshot, V-Ray
• Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite or similar
• Experience building low and high fidelity “looks like” and “works like” mockups and prototypes, at speed and with limited resources
• Working knowledge of manufacturing fundamentals and processes
• Self-motivated and able to work productively without supervision 
• Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication and presentation skills

• Able to communicate the value of design within the context of the business, and provide an articulate rationale for specific design decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AR and VR prototyping tools and workflows (Cinema 4D, Unreal, Unity, Harmony, etc.)
• Hardware and electronics prototyping experience (Arduino, sensors, actuators, 3D printing, etc.)
• Brand and graphic design experience
• Aircraft or automotive interiors and seating design experience is a strong plus

Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $138,000.00-$163,000.00. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
