Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking Experienced Mission Software Engineers for their Satellite Systems Division located in El Segundo, CA or Seal Beach, CA

We are seeking engineers that are passionate about space and motivated to be part of a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for Boeing built commercial and government space products!

This is an opportunity to work in a rapid development environment using modern technology, architecture, and tools.

We develop new software capabilities in the areas of Command & Control, Mission Planning & Processing, Mission Management, and other peripheral products used during satellite launch and mission operations.

We work within an agile methodology using a CI/CD environment; integrated with automated testing, vulnerability, & quality scanning capabilities. Depending on your skills and specific tasking/program alignment, you may be asked to develop within the Linux or windows operating systems; perform front or back end development; and deliver different product architectures including but not limited to web services/APIs/microservices, thick client, and/or web applications.

You will directly partner with customer counterparts and program management to deliver the highest value capabilities, performing demonstrations along the way. The role requires a creativity and you will be encouraged to automate manual processes and workflows where possible. The candidate should possess excellent communications skills and work well in a team environment to support the needs of the Integrated Product Team.

This position requires proven experience within the software ecosystem, a unique background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and capabilities. Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required!

Primary Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Develop and maintain requirements, architectures, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems.

  • Writing and reviewing software code and integrating completed software components into a fully functional software system.

  • Perform software development in the agile methodology utilizing a DevSecOps environment where continuous improvement takes place over time.

  • Build software test procedures and environments, execute the tests and document results to ensure software system requirements are met.

  • Support progress demonstration presentations to customer representatives and satellite program leadership.

This position allows some remote work while Security Clearances are being processed. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or another related field.

  • Software development experience in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and DevSecOps processes/tools.

  • Experience with the software languages C, C , Java, and Shell, Tcl/Tk, Perl, and/or Python.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance with Counterintelligence polygraph

  • Experience with Spacecraft Command & Control, Mission Planning & Processing, Mission Management, Flight Dynamics or other Operations software tools.

  • Experience with sensor processing / image formation using Machine learning and artificial intelligence concepts.

  • Current CompTIA Security certification.

  • Experience using team collaboration tools including Bitbucket (Git), JIRA, Confluence, Artifactory, etc.

  • Experience using SonarQube and/or Coverity to manage code quality.

  • Experience with cloud computing and virtualization technologies (Splunk, Vmware) and containerized applications and frameworks (Docker, Kubernetes).

Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation stand
