Department: Bakery/Cafe

Reports to: General Manager

Location: On-site

Shift: Flexible schedule - includes weekends

Wage: Starts at $18 an hour

Position Overview: The Baker is responsible for ensuring that customers have an exceptional experience while at the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store, Restaurant, & Bakery. This position will assist customers by preparing quality baked goods for our bakery, restaurant, wholesale accounts, and the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store. They will also be responsible for packaging/displaying items from the bakery. The Baker will also assist with maintaining a clean, stocked, and safe work environment.

The Baker must work to provide a safe and respectful environment for employees and customers. It is critical that this person’s actions, behaviors, and words align with S.E.R.V.I.C.E. standards and the WGS Mission and Values.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Measures, blends, shapes, stores, and prepares baked goods according to recipe specs, quality, and presentation standards.
  • Decorates and displays finished products.
  • Greets customers, answers questions, takes and fills orders accurately and on time.
  • Safely uses bakery equipment and keeps up equipment maintenance.
  • Recommend, select, and help customers with bakery questions as needed.
  • Share product knowledge enthusiastically and accurately to elevate service and increase sales.
  • Ensure food/merchandise is properly stocked, labeled, and rotated
  • Must remain friendly and service oriented, even during times of long lines and high traffic.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, safe, and respectful environment for guests and employees.
  • Maintain a clean and organized store/restaurant.
  • Confront and resolve difficult situations in a proactive, objective, professional, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Ensures that the company’s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well maintained, clean, well-organized and stocked counter and food window area.
  • Embrace change by being open to new ideas.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, groups, peers, management, and the general public.
  • Maintains food knowledge on all Bob’s Red Mill offerings and confidently and accurately communicating that knowledge to customers.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Be willing to assist in other departments as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisor responsibilities.
  • This position reports to the Restaurant Manager

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses strong communication and time management skills.
  • Has knowledge of a variety of baking techniques including allergen-free and vegan baking.
  • Detail oriented and able to follow recipes accurately.
  • Familiar with recipe conversion to up or down scale a recipe.
  • Flexibility to work around customer demands.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates Respect, Teamwork, Accountability, and Determination. 
  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to potential food allergens is or may be present.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • One or more years of professional baking experience required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Must be available to work weekends
  • Must be able to obtain/possess a Food Handler’s Card

Physical Demands:

  • Position regularly requires walking or standing for long periods up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Position regularly requires working around high temperatures.
  • Position requires the ability to lift up to 50lb on a regular basis.

Work Environment:

  • The primary work environment for this position is within the traditional and wheat-free bakery indoors may encounter temperatures from 32 degrees within a cooler to 425 degrees around cooking equipment.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
