Department / Team Overview:

Institutional Accounting provides portfolio accounting and reporting as a value-added service to clients of the BNYM core custody business. The service provides the delivery, to agreed deadlines, of an audited market valuation for a portfolio or group of portfolios, together with supporting transaction details.

This team’s primary focus is to work in partnership with our clients, providing a complete and independent investment reporting package.

We service a range of clients which include Corporate Pension Funds, Government Pension Funds, Central Banks, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Insurance Companies, and Investment Managers.

These clients invest in the full range of financial instruments that include Equities, Bonds, Forward and Spot FX, Derivatives and Money Market instruments amongst others.

Reports to (to whom the person directly reports): Investment Reporting Manager

Overall responsibility (overview of the role):

The role of a Senior Analyst is to act as an intermediary between the Managers / Team Leader and the team acting as a first point of contact for daily workflow and client support. It will be expected that the Senior Analyst will audit a range of investment portfolios, on a monthly basis. This entails the validation of positions, prices, income and transactions between the records of BNY Mellon’s Accounting platform, Custody and Investment Managers of the Bank’s clients.

The Senior Analyst will be part of a team that works in partnership with our internal service providers and fund managers. This includes period-end, regulatory, and financial reporting.

The Senior Analyst will provide technical assistance and support to their team and the department on all financial reporting matters

The Senior Analyst will set, demonstrate and ensure adherence to departmental processes so that the required standards of excellence are maintained and improved within the department

Key areas of responsibility:

  • A first point of contact / interaction for internal stakeholders where queries are received from the client. Ensures that team members have raised any required QBR’s each month and actions have been taken.
  • Involved in the sign off work and will be expected to support the sign off of more complex accounts within the team.
  • Performs complex fund / client accounting responsibilities to drive forward service improvement, targeting efficiencies, enhancing processes and specialist review functions. Provides input in to methodologies and checks the work of more junior team members.
  • Acts as an intermediary between the team and the Team Leader for queries and direction.
  • Will assist with establishing workload priorities and allocation of workload on a day to day basis.
  • Provides regular oversight of workload progress and provides feedback to the Team Leader to ensure that client SLA’s are achieved.
  • Actively participates and reinforces communications made by the TM / TL during huddles and will deputise in their absence.
  • Will be the first point of contact for direction when resolving technical and client queries with the time periods dictated.
  • Assists in generating and preparing appropriate metrics for MIS for the management team. Completes the performance dashboard each month and is able to delegate this to competent seniors as and when required.
  • Involved with project work and takes a senior lead in delegation and oversight of project requirements.
  • Ongoing development of accounting knowledge, maintaining awareness and understanding of relevant regulations and generally accepted accounting practice changes, and client requirements.
  • Relevant financial products knowledge kept up to date to ensure team and departmental procedures reflect current market developments. Be involved in quarterly procedure review.
  • Escalation to Team Leader required for risk items related to clients / Workflow
  • Will deputise for the TL in their absence.
  • Motivates and develops staff, maximising individual contribution, professional growth and ability to function effectively with colleagues as a team.
  • Ensure team is working in accordance with department policies and support audits when required including SOC1 visits.
  • Support training and development of staff. Provide feedback on individuals within the team on a monthly basis to the people manager, so this can be shared within 1-2-1 meetings.
  • Involvement in weekend Wellness Testing.

Working conditions and other information:

  • 9am – 5pm
  • Monday – Friday
  • Overtime often required around key deliverable deadlines
  • This role does not fall under the FCA T&C Scheme
