**MUST HAVE PRIOR POTTERY STUDIO WORK EXPERIENCE**

Managerial Responsibilities

We're looking for an enthusiastic part time manager who is passionate about fostering a creative, welcoming environment while ensuring the smooth operation of our community pottery studio.

1. Studio Operations

  • Managing Daily Activities: When present and on the schedule, to oversee the daily operations of the studio, including open hours, equipment usage, flow of projects, and overall cleanliness.
  • Task Prioritization: At the beginning of a shift, evaluating the most pressing needs of the studio and providing the studio techs a daily gameplan. At the end of each shift, re-assessing what was finished, what remains unfinished, and what the following shift and/ or day should focus on.
  • If something significant goes unfinished (i.e. not prepping clay for intro classes/ events, someone forgot to cover pieces and they’re dried out, trimming and/or glazing is significantly backed up), communicate with owners.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure kilns, wheels, and other pottery equipment are in good working condition, notifying owners of any necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Inventory Management: Keep track of clay, glazes, tools, and other supplies, ordering stock as needed.

2. Staff Management

  • Help guide studio techs in their day-to-day priority lists and provide regular feedback to the owners, on what they think specific staff members need to thrive at their fullest potential.

3. Member and Student Engagement

  • Class & Workshop Coordination: Provide recommendations about improvements you think would benefit class structure, or creative workshop ideas you think would benefit the studio community.
  • Community Building: Help foster a sense of belonging by helping to organize member meet-ups, pottery sales, and art shows.
  • Fun & “Extras”: Think the “party planning committee”. Brainstorm with owners and other staff and provide recommendations for fun activities you think the studio would enjoy (i.e. we bring in donuts on National Donut Day or the first day of the session, themed classes, birthday events, etc.).

4. Customer Service

  • Welcoming Environment: Greet customers, members and students warmly, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Feedback Collection: Regularly gather feedback from members and students to improve classes, events, and studio offerings, and relay that information to owners.

5. Compliance and Safety

  • Studio Rules: As we finalize our ‘Studio Playbook’, help us to enforce studio policies to maintain safety, such as proper cleaning techniques, as well as use of equipment and materials.
  • Health and Safety: Help us to ensure compliance with health guidelines, including proper ventilation and clay disposal.

ManagerQualifications

  • Prior pottery studio work experience - preferred 2 years
  • Strong management and supervisory skills
  • Proficiency in customer service
  • Comfortable with using email and Square as a POS system
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive demeanor
  • Multilingual or bilingual skills are a plus
  • Reliable and honest

Manager Schedule & Pay

Schedule

  • We’d like for our managers to work 3 days per week (roughly 11am - 6pm). If you are also an instructor, you will have separate teaching shifts, for which your teaching pay rate will supersede your manager’s rate.

Pay Rate

  • $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
  • If you ever cover someone's ‘studio tech’ or ‘assistant teacher’ shift, this rate will apply and replace any preexisting pay rates for those positions.

Please note: Classes will always have assigned instructors and each day will have designated studio techs, but in the event of a call-out or at times when certain responsibilities throughout the studio seem to be lagging behind, our expectation is that our manager(s) will step in and help fill the gaps until we can remedy the situation.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract
