Blue Ridge Power is Hiring a Remote Estimator

The Estimator is responsible for the quality, clarity, and thoroughness of a well-defined estimate as a proposal. They will lead a collaborative process to identify and present the scope, methodologies, references, defining deliverables, assumptions and exclusions made, and quantification of the level of risk and uncertainty that make up an estimate. The employee will report directly to the Director of Estimating and work in concert with other estimators, project stakeholders, and subject matter experts in a collaborative work environment that requires the ability to direct and influence others not directly supervised.

What You’ll Do

  • Review and understand each Request for Proposal (RFP) including scope of work and proposal deliverables.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complying responses to each RFP.
  • Determine project resource requirements (labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, etc).
  • Obtain quotes from appropriate subcontractors and vendors.
  • Obtain pricing, schedule, and other inputs from internal Engineering, Procurement, & Construction groups.
  • Help identify opportunities for cost and schedule optimization.
  • Coordinate and lead internal reviews.
  • Evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions.
  • Express ideas clearly to others.
  • Deal with people in actual job duties beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Work with numbers accurately to review budgets, materials, and time schedules.
  • Make decisions based on personal judgment.
  • See details and recognize errors in written material, numbers, charts, or tables.
  • Comprehend and practice safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Handbook. 
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often.

Must-Haves 

  • 3 years of experience in estimating or project management (or similar) in the construction industry. 
  • Advanced user skills in Microsoft Office Applications – Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling logic and P6 software.
  • Strong Organizational skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction and utility industry practices.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings, make effective presentations, and write work plans & proposals.
  • Ability to accurately interpret and effectively communicate construction documents, contracts, scopes of work, addendums, correspondence, etc. 
  • Ability to multitask multiple projects during the same timeline.
  • Ability to perform in a deadline-orientated work environment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with utility scale solar. 
  • Experience with HCSS software.
  • Experience with Estimating EPC work.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Business Management, Engineering, or a relevant discipline is desired, but not required for strong candidates.

Working Environment and Physical Demand

  • The employee will report to a current BRP office (Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, or Fayetteville, NC). This position is 50/50 remote. 20%Travel is expected and typically includes travel to and between the BRP offices, projects, customer meetings, and off-site training.
