BLUE ORIGIN is Hiring a Software Engineer III Near Seattle, WA

As part of a hardworking team of diverse software creators, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and verifying software for test systems that test the functionality and safety of flight hardware. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and share in the team’s impact on all aspects of re-usable, safety-critical software development, verification and delivery. Our team delivers the software packages used to test flight avionics and mechanical hardware during acceptance and qualification testing. We are hiring at all levels! Experienced software engineers will be responsible for: Designing and implementing software in Python and C/C that automates the test campaigns of avionics and mechanical hardware components of the rocket. Producing documentation for software architecture, design, verification, and configuration management. Defining and developing verifiable software requirements, architecture and designs. Developing tests to ensure code meets safety critical standards and functions. Conducting trade-studies and develop prototypes to prove out architecture and design concepts/quantify technical risks. Qualifications: Dependent on level: Experience writing software and deploying it to a production environment. Strong software development skills, particularly in Python and C/C . Working knowledge of real-time operating systems and Linux. Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary, and familiarity with software verification approaches. Critical thinking when reviewing system requirements to write software. Hard working team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: Dependent on level: Degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related technical field with equivalent years of experience. Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems (including APIs, interfaces and device drivers). Experience developing, verifying, certifying and releasing mission and safety-critical software systems that comply with DO-178 or similar guidelines. Direct hands-on experience with GNU toolchain, Serial Communications, IP networking Knowledge of communications protocols such as UDP/TCP, I2C, UART, ZMQ, etc. Experience with agile development methods. Experience with tools such as Git (Gitlab/GitHub) DOORs Next Generation (DNG), , Docker. Experience across the full software development lifecycle: concept definition, architecture, requirements capture and development, software implementation and verification, continuous integration, qualification and release. Exposure to software development on embedded system with I/O transducers: displacement, rate, and acceleration sensors; pressure and temperature sensors; servo and solenoid actuators; etc. Working knowledge of hardware components such as an MMU, MAC, DMA, Flash, etc. Experience with debuggers, profiling, and tracing.
