Position title: Quality Supervisor

Reports to: Quality Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for oversight of all laboratory activities as well as leading a team of laboratory technicians. This role is instrumental in leading aspects of quality assurance; such as, leading investigations with cross function teams to determine root cause for quality issues that may arise, participating in customer interactions, and acting on behalf of the quality manager as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Quality staff includes scheduling, approving time records, periodic evaluation, counseling, and performance documentation. Responsible for conducting departmental and job specific training.
  • Conduct laboratory analyses and investigations, develop and apply new techniques.
  • Notify key stakeholders of identified issues and ensure proper communication. Provide technical support for resolution of quality problems with operations teams.
  • Foster a strong relationship between all stakeholders and be able to work with all levels and functions within the organization.
  • Support Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Ensure finished product and raw materials are tested per specification. Monitor test results in relation to these specifications.
  • Support the plant Food Safety & Quality System to produce safe, quality food.
  • Have food safety authority as a Qualified Individual.
  • Serve as primary back up for the quality manager and work towards Quality Manager development.
  • Prepare test schedules and procedures, solutions, and reagents for use by laboratory personnel in conducting tests. Maintain Good Laboratory Procedures (GLP’s) including calibration. Order laboratory supplies.
  • In conjunction with the Quality Manager, update and support Food Safety programs and Food Safety systems. Ensure work instructions, SSOPs, procedures and other pertinent documentation is up to date.
  • Participate in quality complaint investigations. Verify corrective action completion and continued conformance. 
  • Communicate directly with customers for resolution of concerns and provide technical support as needed.
  • Perform and/or participate in internal and third-party audits while ensuring compliance to internal quality policies and applicable local regulations through the audits, observations, process reviews, and development of corrective actions with site management.
  • Provide technical assistance to quality control and operations.
  • Comply with all company safety and quality guidelines and role model those behaviors for not only the Quality team but for the facility.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or similar Science/Engineering program.
  • Minimum of 2 years in quality leadership role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant GFSI standards BRC, SQF, or FSSC22000.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Highly organized, precise and detail orientated; strong time management and record keeping skills
  • Able to handle working on multiple tasks of a diverse nature in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills.
  • Ability to use analytical skills to solve problems.
  • Willingness to develop self and others to better the company goals and build talent.
  • Experience in food manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proficient in current computer software – Microsoft Office
