Description

Summary:  Creates and delivers training sessions to agency personnel in order to promote understanding and compliance with both regulatory and quality of life issues inherent in serving the developmentally disabled. Will also create and deliver training to the individuals, on-site, to improve the skills and abilities of the people we serve. In conjunction with this training function, the Training Specialist will also review and assess different functional systems for regulatory compliance and appropriateness.

Essential Employees: All Block Institute Employees have been deemed Essential Employees by New York State. As such, that means that if there are requirements for Essential Employees to show up to work during announced emergencies or times of crisis, all Block employees are among those mandated to do so. (Subject to any other Executive Order to the contrary.)

The scope of an Essential Employees’ tasks during an emergency situation will vary from situation to situation, may include, but not be limited to: physically showing up to a designated work site as instructed, even if other businesses are closed; completion of all work where possible online, including documentation of services, evaluations, billing, etc.; attendance at Microsoft Team Meetings (or other online communication platforms) as invited; and completion of any assignments or training modules as instructed, and working remotely where possible.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Research, develop, maintain, and update training modules to meet the needs of: agency employees, individuals we serve, their families, and outside entities. Insures OPWDD, SED, and other regulatory standards are accurately taught to employees, and quality of life enhancements are taught to the people we serve.
  • Possess dynamic presentation skills that promote learning and retention of skills, policies and procedures being presented.
  • Work closely with Agency programs to arrange for delivery of these sessions as well as arrange time to audit and review systems which may impact on current or future training and quality of care needs.
  • Insures all agency policies and procedures are taught as requested by Administration to all appropriate personnel.
  • Work closely with the Director of Total Quality Management to develop and follow a system of agency-wide areas for review as deemed appropriate.
  • Will deliver training and perform audit duties for all Agency Programs, onsite, whenever possible. This may include demonstrating training for individuals in the residence, group room, classroom, etc., while other staff and consumers are observing and being asked to perform the new skill.
  • Manage, track, and coordinate training materials and certificates of completion for the agency.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training facilitators, curriculum and modalities via survey and observation, interview and assessment.
  • Evaluate and ensure measures of competency for all training provided.
  • Will assess effective implementation of agency procedures and protocols by providing formal observations and feedback
  • The Training Specialist will additionally ensure that the Agency Reportable incidents of Abuse/Neglect., Significant, and Minor Notable Occurrences are investigated and documented within the guidelines set forth by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities and Block Institute.
  • Will monitors trends of incidents and internal occurrences involving persons receiving services in conjunction with the Internal IRC Committee and review of State and Internal Audits as well as formal and informal observation.
  • Will identify and recommend the need for staff training within investigatory process
  • Will assess and evaluate Employee, Individual, and Family satisfaction via survey, interview, and observation processes.
  • Identify and report on agency trends relevant to satisfaction, audit outcomes, incidents and assessed competency of employees.
  • Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Mandatory attendance at required in-service training, along with ability to absorb and demonstrate compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policy and procedure requirements is required for this position.
  • All Block Employees will be required to learn and master the use of any and all software systems and technology utilized by the Agency, on a Program by Program basis.
  • Attendance/Punctuality: is consistently at work and on time. Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent. Arrive at meetings and appointments on time.

Qualifications


  • BA/BS Degree in a related setting preferred but not required
  • Experience with Paycom software preferred but not required
  • Training experience required
