Summary/Objective

Blackwatch is providing support to the government for the formulation, design, development, fabrication, integration, testing, verification, and operations of space flight and ground system hardware, including development and validation of new technologies to enable future space and science missions. The engineering areas of emphasis are multidisciplinary with concentration in the mechanical engineering areas of materials, structural analysis and loads, mechanical design, electromechanical design, thermal, contamination and coatings, manufacturing, integration and test, optics, cryogenics, detector systems development, laser and electronic optics, and microwave instrument technologies. The Electrical Engineer will provide design and analysis services for electromechanical systems in support of our government client’s mission. The types of electromechanical systems requiring expertise include conventional and magnetic bearings, active/smart structures, vibration isolation, and large aperture, lightweight systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides modeling, simulation and analysis using CAD and simulation tools utilizing hardware and software compatible with those used by the Mechanical Systems Division.
  • Performs concept trades, concept design, and detailed design of electromechanical systems and their components.
  • Performs hardware and software trade-off studies, timing, reliability, failure mode and worst-case analysis to determine and optimize digital electronic circuits and systems to meet the functional specifications and perform over the expected range of environmental conditions.
  • Supports the development of models that describe the behavior and performance of the actuators and sensors, together with the associated command, telemetry, and control electronics.
  • Designs or performs test sequences to measure and characterize the performance of electronic components and systems, and subsequently analyzes and interprets the test results and prepares summary reports.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience related to electrical systems and/or general electronic experience. 
  • Expertise to set-up and operate electronic design and test equipment compatible with equipment used by the Mechanical Systems Division, and other equipment typically found in flight hardware development in electrical and mechanical engineering labs.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, and efficiently operate computers including the ability to write simple programs.
  • Experience in design, analysis, selection, implementation, and testing of bearings, flex-pivots, and flexures.
  • Basic proficiency in general math calculations, PC tools, MS Office, E-mail, and Web applications
  • Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
