The Entry Level Electrical Engineer is located in Kansas City and typically reports directly to a Senior Engineer. The position works on projects involving survey/right of way, overhead electric utility transmission lines, overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems, joint use, fiber communications, electric vehicle charging stations, small cells, and arc flash studies in accordance with NESC, NEC, NFPA 708 codes and Utility Owner requirements.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Design of transmission lines
• Design of overhead and underground distribution systems
• Joint use coordination and make ready design to accommodate new fiber attachments
• Analyze data collected from existing electric utility distribution systems for the accommodation of the addition of fiber communications using PLS Pole, PLS CADD, and/or O-Calc on electrical distribution systems
• Design and coordination of electrical charging stations
• Design and coordination of small cell installations
• Use of a field data collection device to survey and collect information from existing electric utility distribution systems
• Work as a technical lead and coordinate the activities of other staff
• Perform short circuit, coordination, and arc flash hazard analysis studies
• Application of arc flash analysis protocols and concepts
• Prepare make ready construction prints, construction work orders, job packets and summary bill of materials
• Establish and maintain client relationships, with strong emphasis on communication
• Follow safety procedures
• Work effectively in a team environment
• Other tasks as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to obtain Professional Engineering license when eligible
• Preferred experience:
  • Pole loading and design software including O-Calc, PLS Pole, and/or PLS CADD on electrical systems
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, and other applicable codes
  • General transmission and distribution knowledge, industry trends, etc
  • Use and application of an Ike (or similar) field data collection device
