BioSpyder Technologies, Inc. is Hiring a Director or VP of Research & Development Near Carlsbad, CA

Full-time position on-site in Carlsbad, CA responsible for management and development of the R&D team, integration of new products into Services and Manufacturing, identification of new applications for our core technology and its variants, writing grants and publications, and working with senior staff to set R&D priorities in response to strategic and market opportunities.

About us:

BioSpyder Technologies is an 11-year-old, privately held, USA-based company that has developed a novel, flexible, and powerful assay called TempO-Seq™, a targeted sequencing method for monitoring RNA or DNA targets. TempO-Seq operates by progressive reagent addition, and there is no need for RNA/DNA extraction, purification or reverse transcription. TempO-Seq can monitor the expression of up to tens of thousands of genes per sample, from thousands of cells down to single cells, and from isolated RNA/DNA, crude cell lysates, fixed tissue samples or dried whole blood. Our technologies are enabling innovative basic and clinical research and have been widely adopted for toxicogenomics and environmental chemical safety.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who wants the opportunity to significantly impact the growth and success of our business by expanding, developing and launching robust, novel technical applications. The Director/VP, R&D will provide oversight and leadership for our scientific team while providing technical input company-wide. This position reports to the CEO and will serve as a key member of the leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work closely with company leaders to develop and execute R&D strategy, evaluate new target opportunities, and initiate new pipeline programs. Provide scientific and intellectual guidance to internal decision-makers.
Lead and manage scientists involved with the research, development and launch of TempO-Seq applications. Plan, develop and prioritize R&D efforts and ensure internal resources are available and allocated correctly.
Ensure effective cross-functional communication, teamwork, and collaborations with internal and external partners.
Collaborate with the commercial team to understand market requirements for phase-gated development programs.
Keep up to date on the latest developments in RNA/DNA genomics tools, apply for grants/contracts to support R&D programs, attend and/or present at applicable scientific conferences, and publish scientific findings.
Originate/contribute to invention disclosures and patent applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics or other related disciplines.
Minimum 10 years of biotech industry experience specializing in high throughput genomic analyses.
Able to critically and analytically evaluate scientific data to move projects forward.
Well-developed problem-solving skills.
Track record of developing life sciences products from R&D through transfer to Manufacturing and Services and commercial launch.
Demonstrated experience in managing scientists and leading successful research projects.
Excellent team and scientific leadership ability and communication skills, both written and oral.
Effective in a team environment, able to mentor and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to travel on occasion… domestically and internationally.
Title and salary are dependent on experience.
Continuous right to work in the US is required as Visa sponsorship is not provided.
