Big Ass Fans is Hiring a Senior Director, Engineering Near Lexington, KY

Big Ass Fans, the global leader in delivering comfort solutions in complex environments, is seeking a Senior Director, Engineering. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to lead an exciting, growth focused team critical to the strategic goals of the organization in achieving commercial growth across the globe. This senior level opportunity will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and be a visible leader in the organization, with responsibilities for driving all product engineering activities including NPI, VAVE, hardware, software, compliance, and product testing.Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering expertise and leadership throughout the organization while overseeing Product Engineering groups (Industrial & Residential), VAVE/Sustaining Engineering, Firmware/Software, Test Lab/R&D and Compliance.
  • Encourage innovative engineering design and development projects to satisfy current and future market requirements. Assure engineering maintenance of existing products, including design upgrades, specification, utilization of new materials, and processes to facilitate effective and efficient production.
  • Provide project management, technical direction and guidance for product development teams serving control solutions for Residential, Commercial, and Industrial markets.
  • Manage the development, design, and/or creation of new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
  • Support a lean manufacturing culture across all BAF processes, working directly with Operations to ensure best practices in product designs for manufacturing.
  • Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems and manage engineering resources to investigate and effectively remedy issues as they arise.
  • Foster and promote NPI processes and best practices for the development of high-quality products across all product lines, plants and global locations.
  • Drive accountability throughout the NPI process through thoughtful target setting, aggressive toll gates and management of resources/issues to ensure launch commitments are attained.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to create and engage a cohesive NPI process and ensure all teams have a thorough understanding of roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide vision and leadership for existing and emerging products and application technologies through an understanding of customer and business needs.
  • Assign tasks/projects to engineering staff, track progress and provide reports to Senior Leadership.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, software/firmware release and control, ECOs, installation manuals, and other technical documents.
  • Drive the architecture/design decisions needed to achieve cost-effective and high-performance results.
  • Responsible for the administrative management of the engineering team including activities such as hiring, organizational development, goal setting and performance evaluations, compensation reviews, and talent development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or closely related technical field required; Master’s degree in engineering or business preferred
  • 10 years’ experience in the development and life cycle management of electronically controlled products
  • 5 years’ experience in providing direct or project leadership for engineers and/or other technically skilled individuals.
  • 10 years’ experience in product design and development, encompassing all phases from concept realization through prototype build evaluations and volume production implementation
  • Must have excellent track record of managing engineering teams through successful, timely and within budget product launches
  • Experience with metal fabrication and/or paint finishing, a plus
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks or other CAD software
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence in a matrix organization
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to assess individual developmental levels and provide the necessary amount of support to achieve goals
  • Experience working with third party engineering resources
  • Experience working as a member of cross-functional product teams
