Big Ass Fans is Hiring an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist Near Lexington, KY

Big Ass Fans is in search of an Environment, Health, and Safety Specialist who will assist with the administration, implementation, and enforcement of BAF healthy and safety policies!

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with regulations enforced through OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all other state and federal laws/regulations pertaining to safety and the environment
  • Manage accidents and incidents which occur; provide first aid or emergency response as needed, document, report, and assist in the identification of root cause and the development of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible hazards and liabilities.
  • Create, maintain and update JSA’s for all safe work practices and equipment.
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property follow company policies and safety requirements.
  • Gather and report data on safety and environmental performance, compliance, expenses, and incidents; keep site managers apprised of status, trends, and progress compared to goals
  • Organize and participate in activities that promote employee ownership in the safety & environmental programs such as safety committees, emergency response teams, first responder meetings, accident investigation committees, etc.
  • Participate in the review of new operations, processes and procedures and updates changes to existing procedures
  • Ensure maintenance and easy access to current safety resources for each location
  • Meet all required federal, state, and city permitting / reporting requirements to ensure operational compliance
  • Serve as point of contact for all inquiries, inspections, and/or audits by federal, state, and/or city regulatory agencies including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, Health Department, Fire Department, etc.
  • Maintain safety and environmental files in a manner that they are readily available for inspection by regulating agencies
  • Has the authority to stop the line/process for any occupational health & safety, environmental and health-related concerns
  • Maintain stock of PPE and Emergency Response Equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, health and/or environmental management or related engineering/scientific field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of safety experience preferred.
  • Technical safety certifications such as First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection Competent Person, etc. are highly preferred.
  • Candidate must be familiar with current and proposed federal, state, and local safety and health regulations
  • Familiar with the safety of warehouses, construction teams, mobile equipment, as well as production environments
  • Must be knowledgeable of current and proposed personal protective equipment requirements
  • Must have competency in the development of written procedures and instructions. Strong written and oral communication skills are necessary
  • Able to make objective evaluations of safety problems and implement abatement methods
  • Able to recognize hazards and develop proper corrective action
  • Physically and mentally fit to complete audits/investigations as necessary
  • Broad knowledge of OSHA, DOT & EPA compliance and workers' compensation administration
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees, contractors, federal, state & city regulators and insurance carriers
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making and influence skills a must
  • Familiar with Google Systems - Gmail, Google Docs, Spreadsheets, etc.
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills and strong organization skills
  • Must be self-motivated with ability to manage multiple competing priorities
