Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for an HPC System Administrator, who will collaborate with a team across myriad disciplines and drive the team’s impact on the future of computing with customers and partners for an onsite role in Redmond WA.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Administration of Linux-based compute clusters in Azure, such as
  • Interpreting system event logs and monitoring portal to determine cause of errors
  • Ensuring clusters uptime is maximized through proactive maintenance
  • Filing support tickets with other teams and following them through to completion
  • Troubleshooting system error issues to address hardware and software problems
  • Coordinating with teams to enact repairs quickly and efficiently
  • Being responsible for meeting uptime and response time metrics
• Architect Azure HPC infrastructure solutions that are optimized for computational chemistry and material science workloads
  • Engineering and optimizing hardware monitoring platforms and support processes
  • Provide performance benchmarking for solutions
• Communicating with end users and platform engineers in a timely and professional manner
• Respond to open issues and collaborate with team members during Redmond business hours
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have 5 - 6 years of experience with Azure technology stack.
• Must have 5 - 6 years of experience with Linux based clusters.
• Must have 5- 6 years’ experience with compiling or optimizing 3rd party software packages to run on Azure.
• Proven background in Linux Systems administration and troubleshooting, with 3 years of hands-on Linux/Ubuntu experience
• Advanced DevOps-CI/CD background with scripting, automation and orchestration experience using Python, Ansible, Bash, C#, Powershell, Jenkins, etc.
• Proficient in building, maintaining, and using Docker containers.
• Experience deploying Azure instances using ARM templates.
• Introductory knowledge of scheduler systems (e.g., Kubernetes, Slurm, HPC Pack)
• Experience with containerization/deploying applications and microservices.
• Familiarity with HPC (High Performance Computing) solutions in Azure
• Experience troubleshooting and optimizing workloads on GPU server clusters and workstations.
• End to end deployment of an HPC infrastructure in Azure, using tools such as azhop
• Optimize performance of widely used 3rd party computational chemistry packages, such as Gromacs, OpenMM, LAMMPS, Quantum Espresso, for scale-up and scale-out in Azure.
  • Optimizing compilation rules to optimize software performance on Azure.
  • Have a deep understanding of Azure compute offerings to know how we can take full advantage when optimizing for performance on Azure.
• Good to have a BS/BA degree in computer science or related field
• Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical and organizational skills
• Should have strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Should have Impeccable documentation skills
• Should be passionate for learning and drive to ramp up quickly on new or unfamiliar technologies
• Should have 2 years of industry experience building, troubleshooting and running large configuration management and monitoring solutions.

• A competitive pay range of $46/hr to $48/hr (depending on experience).

• 15 days per year of Paid Time Off (PTO).
