Machine/Production Operator Level 1

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Completes Shift Change hand downs with operator being relieved.
  • Operates and runs assigned production line or sub-function within a given production line.
  • Monitors incoming product quality against spec sheet.
  • Notifies Line Lead & QC when product is out of spec.
  • Collaborate with QC on periodic in-process line checks.
  • Verifies ingredients against batch sheet.
  • Involves & notify QC and/or Lead Person of any discrepancies.
  • Performs disassembly and re-assembling of equipment for sanitation process, product change or repair.
  • Signs batching sheet for any mixes they perform when verified by QC.
  • Maintains line clean & organized during production cycle.
  • May have to cover breaks for other operators as assigned.
  • Performs any other assigned responsibilities.

SAFETY & QUALITY REQUIREMENTS:

All employees are expected to comply with the following:

  • Performs production functions ensuring food safety, quality standards, and compliance to SOPs and applicable regulations.
  • Must develop a functional understanding of the quality and food safety requirements in production operations.
  • For each area of production that training has been successfully completed, must have functional knowledge of the manufacturing processes, such that you can operate the equipment and processes.
  • Communicate issues, concerns, process deviations and related to supervisor upon identification.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use o With Food Safety and Quality as a priority, executes the manufacturing operations in a manner that achieves the production schedule and best serves our customers.
  • May be designated to operate Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT), only after completing Better Nutritionals’ safety assessment and when authorized by management o Supports and maximizes operational up-time on the factory floor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. Through experience, education (formal or other), training, OTJ-acquired skills, knowledge and related.
  • Understand function and operation of production and related equipment o Has a general background in commercial food, dietary supplements and/or pharmaceutical product manufacturing or related production operation experience.
  • Fully understands the execution of the job in the context of food safety o Ability to complete required manufacturing and quality records in English, as required.
  • Bilingual capabilities very desirable (e.g. Spanish/English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for the duration of their shift, including traversing to and from areas within the production floor. Occasionally required to squat, climb and bend during their shift. The employee is constantly required to move around their assigned production line in an area of approximately 100 square feet. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.. Heavier lifting and moving must be done with the assistance of a second person. Requires the constant use of hand to finger motions, handle, grip, or feel; reach with hands and arms. Speech and hearing abilities are used all the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: o Facility equipment can be dangerous and have risk associated with but not limited to:

  • High Heat/Temperature or Pressure
  • Chemical handling, exposure and related risks.
  • Pinch Points and Sharps
  • Bump hazards
  • Tripping hazards
  • Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT’s)
  • Factory Operations could require extended work hours and possible work on weekends

General:

  • Exposure to potentially hot, wet, and powdery working conditions in cooking rooms.
  • Exposure to noise from equipment in operation.
  • Exposure to pollutants or allergens which can adversely affect the skin and/or the respiratory system such as gases, smoke, odors, mists, fumes, dust, chemicals, oils or solvents, exposure to hazardous working conditions including moving machinery, and/or electricity.
  • The job requires the use of protective equipment such as aprons, sleeves, gloves, hair and beard nets, smocks, safety glasses and steel toe/slip resistant shoes.

The back-up position for the Production Operator Level 1 shall be Production Lead and/or current Production Operators.
