The Permit Manager will be supervising, coordinating, and managing the permitting department as well as all Permit Coordinators. They will first and foremost lead and manage the permitting team, deal with escalations as needed from time to time, interface with city/county (AHJ) officials as needed from time to time, apply for permits as needed from time to time, and resolve objections related to Building, Zoning, and Planning Departments as needed from time to time. The Permit Manager shall also ensure that all data and reports are properly utilized in our project management system and find areas to improve our overall permitting timelines, operations and other system and process efficiencies.

Job Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Manage all Permit Coordinators and ensure they are performing efficiently.
  • Develop the schedule for all Permit Coordinators and ensure they are successful in obtaining permits and permit approvals in an expedient manner.
  • Work to develop existing Permit Coordinators as well as new hires to obtain permits in a successful, efficient and expedient manner.
  • Work to resolve escalated permitting issues and support the team in the issuance of complicated permits that a Permit Coordinator may be struggling to obtain and/or get approved.
  • Support the permitting team in all their daily tasks and help resolve their issues so there is a larger throughput of permits as well as shorter permitting timelines.
  • From time to time and on an as needed basis:
    • obtain documents from engineers to facilitate the permit application process
    • obtain all required approvals for permits and act as liaison between the company and each municipality
    • prepare and submit applications to various agencies/boards having jurisdiction over required permits and/or approvals
    • prepare check requests and process invoice payment documentation in coordination with the accounting department
    • submit, distribute and file paperwork and enter data for various permits such as building, design review, standard plan, plan changes, and amendment permits
    • maintain all company files relating to site plan applications, approvals, licenses and permits
    • work closely with the municipalities on the status of permits and ensure they are processed in a timely manner
    • produce and maintain schedules for all communities and coordinate with municipalities from approval to final stages of permitting process
    • schedule, attend and coordinate meetings, appointments, etc., with engineers, city officials and various Better Earth departments

Qualifications

  • Has some amount of knowledge pertaining to construction
  • Has a current AZ drivers license and good driving history
  • Has clear and professional communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Comfort with using technology (computer, phone, email, etc.)
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record

Minimum Requirements

  • One (1) year of management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • One (1) year of experience with the overall permitting process with municipalities for any type of construction projects, solar a plus
  • Construction project management experience a plus, solar experience preferred
  • Must have a basic understanding of design plan sets
  • Strong problem solving skills; Detail-oriented team player; comfortable working in a fast paced environment with large volume
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record

Compensation: $20-$25/hr depending on experience
