Miles & Stockbridge P.C. is a 350 lawyer firm with seven offices in the Mid-Atlantic region has an exciting opportunity available for a Human Resources Manager. The Human Resources Manager will report to the Director of Human Resources. The Human Resources Manager plays a critical role in managing the day-to-day coordination and delivery of benefits and compensation programs, HRIS functions, and policies and procedures. The Human Resources Manager may be located in any of the firm's seven locations and may work a hybrid work schedule after integration into the HR department.
Primary responsibilities include benefits administration, HRIS administration, compensation, and other HR duties as assigned.
Benefits Administration:
  • Responsible for day-to-day administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including self-funded medical, dental, vision, as well as life insurance, disability, and all optional benefits.
  • Work closely with the HR Leadership, Benefits Committee, insurance brokers and outside vendors to execute the firm's benefits package with compliance and fiscally responsible strategies.
  • Manage Open Enrollment and new hire benefits enrollment processes.
  • Compliance filings and reporting including, but not limited to, 5500's, Non-discrimination testing, and ACA filings.
  • Serve as liaison with the firm's 401k vendor in the day-to-day 401k plan administration.
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure benefit deductions are correctly administered.
  • Process and manage various leaves of absence requests (FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, etc.) consistent with the firm's policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conducting regular audits to ensure accuracy and data integrity.
HRIS Administration:
  • Manages day-to-day system activities to support the HR and Payroll department.
  • Manages HR onboarding processes and documents, including setup of payroll administration and hiring.
  • Oversees and maintains optimal function of the HRIS, which may include installation, customization, development, maintenance, and upgrade to applications, systems, and modules.
  • Serves as an internal report-writing expert to support firm leadership in the business decision-making process.
  • Serves as lead representative and liaison between HR, information services, and external vendors, for HRIS design and implementation projects.
  • Ensures system compliance with data security and privacy requirements.
  • Coordinate with the HR team in extending verbal and written offers, and check references.
Compensation:
  • Assist with planning, developing, implementing, and analyzing employee compensation.
  • Develop compensation programs and incentive plans.
  • Write, revise, and implement compensation procedures.
  • Monitor effectiveness of compensation program and make recommendations on changes or best practices.
  • Advise leadership and managers on policies and pay decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Other HR Duties:
  • Conduct HR research on current market conditions and best business practices, as requested.
  • Assist with developing personnel policies for inclusion in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participate in performance meetings as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of HR experience with a focus on HRIS, benefit administration and compensation.
  • SHRM or PHR Certification preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience using UKG/UltiPro or similar HRIS.
  • Mastery of MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Thorough knowledge of benefits, compliance, and employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate laws, policies, and other information to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and effective work ethic, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position or sit for prolonged periods and repeat motions that may include the wrists, handsand/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is frequently required to perform light work that includes lifting and moving objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, evening and/or weekend hours to meet deadlines.
  • Some occasional travel may be required between offices.
