Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing business and financial analysis. The position is also responsible for developing and interpreting the management information/financial reporting system, and monitoring and analyzing the business environment and its impact on the organization. Currently this position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Senior Accountant is expected to function at a high level of expertise & competency. Further, the Senior Accountant is expected to use sound judgment while producing consistent results. This function includes financial and regulatory reporting, maintaining and improving systems and processes. 

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Provide technical assistance in the design, implementation, and maintenance of financial/management reporting systems
• Perform specialized business, financial and cost analysis (e.g. cash flow analysis, “What-if” analysis)
• Regulatory/statistical reporting to applicable state agencies such as WCIRB
• Assist in reviewing, testing, and evaluating financial and internal controls in the quarterly SOX assessment process
• Coordinate with management to provide support to internal and external auditors
• Research and analyze competitive and legislative environment and its impact on the organization
• Financial reporting to internal management and corporate parent
• Preparing journal entries and reconciliations of general ledger accounts and assisting in month/quarter/year end close
• Heavily involved in the budgeting and forecasting for the Company
• Evaluate financial reporting workflow for efficiency and recommend improvement opportunities
• Assisting Chief Financial Officer and other finance department staff in analysis and projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA license preferred
• Good working knowledge of GAAP and general SEC and SOX compliance
• Understanding of financial reporting risks in a public company environment and the ability to aid in the design of financial and system control activities
• Ability to research accounting literature and conduct technical analysis
• Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting financial modeling, management studies, system analysis, and financial reporting
• Experience in and SQL/Essbase/Hyperion/SmartView reporting is a plus
• Ability to work effectively across many internal functional groups
• Minimum 5-7 years in relevant work experience
• Strong analytical and technical accounting skills
• Experience in property & casualty insurance is preferred
• Must be proficient in MS Office, particularly in Excel (pivot tables, queries, macros)
• Must be well-organized and able to work effectively under time constraints
• Must have strong written & verbal communication skills
• Must be self-motivated
