Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital is a unique hospital offering Emergency Care, General Practice Medicine, Surgery, and Dentistry. We have been providing veterinary care to the residents of Berkeley and beyond for over a hundred years.
We are looking for an experienced Registered Technician (RVT) to lead and support our growing team of RVT's and Veterinary Assistants as our Hospital Veterinary Technician Director. The right individual will be truly passionate about patient care and have the ability to infect the team with that same passion.
This role is part of our Leadership Team and will work closely with our Hospital Manager, Operations Manager, Customer Service Representative Manager and Medical Director to shape the direction of the practice.
This individual will spend 90% of their time on the floor providing hands on training, supporting the team and leading by example.
Requirements for the position:
- Possess California RVT license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of starting position.
- Experience working in Emergency or Specialty Medicine.
- Track record of leading by example and positively coaching team members.
- Ability to serve as the lead on the floor, practicing a gold-standard of veterinary medicine while holding staff to the same standard.
- Schedule is self determined but individual must have flexibility to work day, swing, and weekend shifts to be able to support all members of the team.
Responsibilities including, but are not limited to:
- Providing day-to-day management of technicians and veterinary assistants, including addressing performance issues, and providing mentorship and training for the team.
- Mentoring and growing the Emergency Room (ER) and General Practice (GP) supervisors to help them reach their professional goals.
- Working with the leadership team to manage the daily general practice appointments and flow of emergency patients through the hospital.
- Leading the ER and GP technician supervisors to develop and oversee staff schedule.
- Working with the Medical Director to develop nursing care protocols.
- Training staff on clinic processes and protocols and ensuring they are consistently being followed.
- Overseeing onboarding and training of new hires.
- Ensuring the clinic is in compliance with Cal/OSHA standards and regulations by training staff to ensure safety protocols are followed and risk of potential injury is minimal.
- Working with the Inventory Manager to oversee the proper handling of and documentation for all controlled substances.
- Attending regular meetings with leadership team where you will actively participate in the continual improvement of the hospital.
