BENNETT AEROSPACE is Hiring a Community Outreach Specialist Near Detroit, MI

Overview

Job Description:

Bennett AerospaceInc. has an opening for a highly motivated Community Outreach Specialist in support of our Federal Law Enforcement client located in Arlington, Virginia. 

Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a field division representative and speaker in the area of preventing drug use and misuse. 
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts/relationships to provide basic information about the DEA field division and monitor specific drug concerns in the division.
  • Assist prevention coalitions and organizations in building and strengthening a community-based network. Develop and maintain partnerships to assess needs and develop, implement, and coordinate community outreach and prevention activities.
  • Provide advice and guidance about community outreach and prevention programs to DEA field division management and other community outreach specialists. Keep management informed about community outreach and prevention activities. Represent the field division when serving on outside committees, attending conferences and seminars, and providing training to individuals and organizations.
  • Organize training sessions, presentations, and prevention activities relevant to community outreach programs and priorities. Coordinate multidisciplinary sessions and programs with prevention organizations, schools, faith-based organizations, law enforcement agencies, and other appropriate entities on community outreach and prevention issues.
  • Serve as a field division resource on drug diversion issues. Coordinate with the field division’s existing diversion outreach coordinator to ensure information sharing, resources, and cooperation.
  • Support the field division’s demand reduction coordinator and public information officer to coordinate, organize, and oversee the field division’s community outreach activities, events, and initiatives and to increase local media interest. 
  • Ensure coordination with the field division’s DEA Citizens Academy. Interact with alumni from the field division’s previous Citizen Academies to further disseminate information and materials on community outreach and prevention programs and priorities.
  • Keep current with prevention science, strategies, and best practices by attending relevant meetings, conferences, and presentations; reviewing prevention literature; and monitoring relevant changes in prevention guidelines and national, statewide, and local data.
  • Monitor and provide day-to-day management of the field division’s community outreach and prevention program. Prepare qualitative and quantitative assessments to determine needs, priorities, and capabilities. Determine the feasibility of current and proposed strategies, initiatives, and materials as well as the extent to which field division offices achieve community outreach and prevention goals and objectives. Develop and maintain materials for prevention education for internal and external use.
  • Coordinate with the field division’s demand reduction coordinator for expenditures and funding related to the field division’s community outreach and prevention activities.
  • Provide input on the field division’s community outreach and prevention program goals, objectives, and activities. Recommend new ideas, methods, and techniques to address needs and improve efficiency and effectiveness related to the field division’s community outreach and prevention activities.
  • Stay current with drug use and misuse data and trends, studies, and methods in related fields to address the field division’s community outreach and prevention needs. Develop and maintain a reference library on the latest prevention information and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in coordinating and organizing community outreach activities, preferably related to substance misuse prevention.
  • Knowledge of drug misuse prevention/education organizations within the field division’s area of responsibility.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in coordinating and organizing trainings, partnership building, networking with agencies and organizations, and community outreach.
  • Experience in working with law enforcement is a plus for information dissemination.
  • Computer skills with MS Office.
  • Driver’s license and personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed).
  • Lift and carry heavy items (e.g., boxes of handouts or audiovisual equipment), up to 75 pounds with assistance.

Travel Requirements: 

  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally to conferences and other events, when appropriate. Travel within a state/multistate area may necessitate operation of a government vehicle.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with minimal oversight.

Security Requirements:

Security Clearance Level: Public Trust

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a Government background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.
  • Successful Pass of Bennett Aerospace Background Investigation, Drug Screening and Credit Check.
