Belmont Charter Network is Hiring an ASSISTANT HEAD OF SCHOOL Near Philadelphia, PA

Summary:
The Assistant Head of School- Instruction is a strategic instructional leader responsible for leveraging teacher performance to ensure students demonstrate significant and measurable academic results, specifically in English/Literacy and History . The AHOS is responsible for leading the instructional vision and academic priorities of the school by directly coaching, developing, and supervising assigned instructional staff. Additionally, the AHOS is charged with creating and facilitating ongoing professional development and aligning instructional coaching to PD. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is relentlessly data-driven, has strong pedagogical and CCCS knowledge, and believes proactive coaching of teachers is one of the key levers towards achieving educational equity for all students. This is a 12 month position that is supervised by the Head of School.

Detailed Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership (60%)
  • Provide real time and goal-aligned coaching to assigned staff
  • Develop professional year long goals with benchmarks for assigned staff based upon rubric goals
  • Lead planning and data meetings with assigned content teams to ensure intellectual preparation for instruction.
  • Model instructional strategies and classroom practices for assigned staff.
  • Develop and lead professional development sessions based upon observed instructional
  • Serve as the curriculum and instruction liaison between the network academic team and school based instructional personnel ensuring alignment to the school's academic vision and expectations.
  • Monitor lesson plan submission and provide feedback based on designated rubric goals.
  • Hold weekly or bi-weekly one on one meetings (O3s) with assigned staff.
  • Communicating with families regarding instructional staff issues or concerns/needs. .
  • Bi-annual evaluation of assigned staff using the BCN evaluation tool
Systems Leadership (30%)
  • Circulate and monitor daily schoolwide transitions.
  • Assist the Head of School and Director of Operations in responding to staff needs throughout the day to ensure timely and smooth operations.
  • Assist in the implementation and schoolwide drills and emergency procedures.
  • Close collaboration with both the Director of Culture and Special Education Manager to ensure consistency and alignment of staff and student expectations and procedures.
  • Coordinating with outside supports/partners
  • Plan benchmark testing and state testing with the network Academic Team
  • Assess curriculum and material needs and communicate to necessary stakeholders
  • Work with Special Education Manager to ensure students are receiving appropriate interventions, modifications, and accommodations in general education settings
  • Working with Interventionists/MTSS Coordinator and Head of School to ensure Tier 1 Academic MTSS process occurs and students are receiving appropriate interventions at all 3 Tiers.
School Culture (10%)
  • Foster a culture of learning/achievement through celebrations of student learning and growth
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Culture to establish school wide, classroom, and student behavior incentive plans and systems.
  • Organize and lead academic incentives in accordance with schoolwide goals targets.
  • Organize, lead, and participate in student and parent events.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree required, PA School Leadership Certification required (or working towards it)
  • Strong background in Literacy/History at the high school level
  • 5 years of demonstrated educational leadership experience as an instructional coach
  • Experience teaching in an urban school setting for a minimum of 3 years
  • Experience managing and implementing school wide cultural systems
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check Clearance (Act 34)
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151)
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation Record Check Clearance (Act 114)
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Clearance (Act 168)

  • Knowledge of public education and charter schools highly desirable but not required
