BDR Solutions is Hiring a Remote Solution Architect

BDR Solutions, LLC, (BDR) supports the U.S. Federal Government in successfully achieving their mission and goals. Our service and solution delivery starts with understanding each client’s end-state, and then seamlessly integrating within each Agency’s organization to improve and enhance business and technical operations and deployments.

BDR is seeking a Solution Architect to join our growing team! The ideal candidate will be based Remotely working from a home office supporting a EST time zone schedule.

Role Overview

The Solution Architect will assist VA in the solutioning needs, design and development of business requirements and system architecture for a software development Product Line at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role will participate in active solutioning for VA needs and will oversee software design and implementation, provide guidance, oversight, and advice to ensure that solution recommendations and discovery align to best practices, VA standards, and operating constraints. They advise the VA Product Line Manager and directly lead or support the development of architectural diagrams, flows and documentation and system information requirements. They support evaluation of software, hardware, and other components against system requirements to ensure fit for purpose, balance with existing constraints, and compliance with standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the solutioning in the design and development of solution architecture for integrated benefits delivery products and services.
  • Collaborate with the business and developers to ensure proper solutioning efforts are taking place with consideration and adherence to business requirements and needs.
  • Create flows, diagrams and documentation with all components that comprise IT systems including network topology.
  • Establish system information requirements using analysis of the information engineer(s) in the development of enterprise-wide or large-scale information systems.
  • Design solutions and architecture to include the software, hardware, and communications to support the total requirements as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces.
  • Assist and lead in the development of the architectural runway providing design direction and the solution framework for applications.
  • Collaborate with customers, end-users, developers, and project managers to analyze, design, implement, and support IT applications and systems.
  • Evaluate the as-is architecture against agreed upon architecture guidelines provided by VA and broader industry best practices.
  • Document potential modernization and improvement opportunities in the portfolio backlog.
  • Assist VA project managers with the development of high-quality responses to internal and external information requests and provide technical consultation and support on all platform initiatives.
  • Translate technical information from disparate sources into executive-level communications.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures for program activities and identify process improvements.
  • Facilitate meetings with VA employees and capture meeting minutes.
  • Work independently to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Function as part of an integrated team sharing products, best practices, and information across the portfolio.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent (20 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education).
  • SAFe Certified.
  • Ability to clear a Moderate Risk Background Investigation
  • 10 of years of experience providing architecture software solutions.
  • Experience in solutioning exercises, and the design and development of IT architecture with a deep understanding of AWS architecture and services: S3, DMS, Redshift, Glue, Spectrum, Athena, Quick Sight, toolsets, and data modeling.
  • Experience in managing and developing solutions in the AWS environment, as well as knowledge of Data Warehouse development or DataMart and Business Intelligence.
  • Proven experience with data movement and building data pipelines.
  • Experience in a wide range of work in creating diagrams and documentation with all components that comprise IT systems including network topology.
  • Must have experience with the following technologies:
    • AWS Redshift, Quick Sight, S3, DMS, Jira, GitHub, or comparable DevOps tools.
    • Microsoft® Office Suite, i.e. Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook/Access/MS® Project, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Visio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Federal consulting or employment experience.
  • Experience working as a contractor or an employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Experience in Jira, Power BI, AWS (Redshift), Quick Sight, DMS, Spectrum, Glue, Athena.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations.
  • Deep knowledge of data movement and building data pipelines.
  • Data Warehouse development and/or DataMart and Business Intelligence knowledge.
  • Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

In addition, U.S Citizenship is required. Select applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and be able to obtain a government-granted security clearance. Individuals may also be subject to a background investigation including, but not limited to criminal history, employment and education verification, drug testing, and creditworthiness.
