Bristol Bay Alaska Tourism is seeking a Controller. As the Controller, you will have a fiduciary responsibility for the integrity of all financial and accounting activities, including budget management, forecasting, financial analysis, and the preparation/presentation of financials. The position offers an opportunity to drive best practices, eliminate inefficiency, nurture relationships and deliver valuable insights while utilizing your leadership and interpersonal skills. You are a strategic business partner, and your contributions will make a difference. This is a hands-on position responsible for accurate and timely financial reports. You will be involved in cross-functional collaboration and can have an impact on Company’s performance by identifying opportunities to invest in automation, free up working capital, and improve efficiency by benchmarking performance.Essential Job Responsibilities: • Business partner to operations and executivesThrough regular consultation, understands the information needed to execute business strategy(ies)Utilizes technology and other tools to provide the necessary informationAssist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts and help in the development of reports for executive managementIs a valued advisor to operations supporting and challenging business decisions• Business story commentatorIn coordination with operations management, develops appropriate key performance indicators which tell the story of the businessPeriodically provides reports and commentary on such key performance indicators; such reports are delivered within agreed timeframes to allow timely response by operationsConstantly working with operations to evaluate, modify, and adjust key performance indicatorsProvides ad-hoc reporting as neededDevelop and maintain a financial reporting schedule• Corporate custodian focused on financial compliance and governanceOversee the daily accounting operations for AP, AR, intercompany, credit cards, and cash management, including oversight of monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance related to these areasDesign and implement the governance and control structure to manage and maintain the standardized processes, procedures, and data structures within the finance functionResponsible for formulation of internal controls and policies Responsible for the successful completion of external and internal auditsResponsible for tax complianceWorks with the CEO and accounting manager to mitigate fraud risks by serving as the secondary banking system administrator and resolving fraud alerts• Financial scorekeeper; providing timely and accurate financial informationResponsible for the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established best practicesBecome an ERP and related systems thought leader, identify opportunities for process and technological system improvementsPartner with stakeholders across BBNC enterprise to assist with improvement projects to elevate operational and strategic reportingPrepare monthly consolidated financial statements and quarterly and annual footnote disclosures• Finance team coach and mentorRecruits team members with the aptitude, intelligence, and capacity to thrive in the company’s environmentProvide effective leadership by mentoring accounting staff to meet the standards, objectives, and goals of the Accounting Department, ensure accountability and fit with the company’s values and culture Develops, in conjunction with staff, individual career development plansProvide staff with challenging goals and standards, training, and transparent feedback• Driver for “Continuous Accounting”Develops and execute a plan to identify advances in accounting/finance technologyEstablishes procedures and goals to continually shorten the close scheduleParticipate in cross-functional initiatives and projects with BBNC corporate departmentsIdentify which finance activities are performed where and optimize the service delivery model through process automation and outsourcingEducation Requirements & Essential Skills:Bachelor’s in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance Minimum of 5 years of relevant, progressive work experience Certified Public Accountant preferredKnowledge of GAAP with demonstrated experience analyzing business transactions in accordance with GAAPDemonstrated mindset of a “servant leader”Experience working collaboratively with executives and peers in the financial reporting environmentExperience developing and preparing complex account reconciliationsInnovative aptitude for continuous improvement of accounting systems and processesAnalytical ability, which enables identification of the root cause of accounting system variancesExperience with Microsoft Office Suite with a proven focus on Excel and PowerPointAbility to work positively and effectively with corporate and subsidiary management and staffKey metrics for the position:Meeting or exceeding the annual Accounting Department budget by introducing innovative solutions and automationCompletion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations for all accountsSuccessful completion of external operational and financial audits Document all key accounting processes and desktop proceduresMeeting all internal and external deadlinesAcceleration of the monthly close process from 15 to 12 daysIdentifies and champions one significant innovative change to accounting processes/procedures each yearPhysical DemandsFrequent sitting and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Work performed in a professional office environmentHiring preference will be given to BBNC shareholders/spouses/descendants and other Alaska Natives in accordance with Public Law 93-638.
