Bay Area Speech and Debate Academy is Hiring a Public Speaking Instructor for Elementary Students in Cupertino, CA Near Cupertino, CA

Public Speaking Instructor for Elementary Students Job Opportunity in Cupertino, CA

Speech and Debate Academy is looking for public speaking/speech, writing, and argumentation instructors to teach our speech, debate, and writing classes for elementary school (2-5th grade) students for the 2023 spring semester: March 2023 through May 2023 on Saturdays 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, and/or Wednesdays 4:00 - 8:00 pm.

There is also an opportunity to continue teaching during our 2023 Summer Camps.

Site Location: 20900 Stevens Creek Boulevard, Cupertino, CA 95014

Must be able to commit to teaching at least 2-8 hours on Saturdays, and /or 2-4 hours on Wednesdays.

Training and Lesson plans will be provided.

Having knowledge and competitive experience in one or more of the following NSDA speech formats is preferred but not required: Original Oratory, Expository, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous speaking, SPAR, Impromptu, and/or any NSDA debate format.

Class Times:
Saturdays - 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM PST, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM PST, 2:00 pm - 4:00 PM PST, and/or 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM PDT

Wednesdays - 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM PDT and/or 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM PDT

Requirements:

  • Deliver lessons in speech and debate skills and train students for tournaments.
  • Prepare for classes in advance. Lesson plans and training will be provided.
  • Ability to teach 2-hour classes at a time with 6 to 10 students in each class.
  • Committed to working on weekends (8 hours or less teaching on Saturday and/or Sunday) and/or in afternoons and evenings on weekdays.
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Optional: accompany students to tournaments, usually held during the weekends.
  • Experience working with children is a plus.

Qualifications:

  • Previous competitive experience in debate and/or speech.
  • Previous coaching experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Must be an excellent teacher who is ethical, timely, and passionate about young people and changing the world through education.
  • In the process of a 4-year college degree, or have a 4-year college degree or higher.

Compensation: Competitive, part-time hourly pay based on experience.

Available Positions:
Debate Coaches who are able to coach any of the high school debate events: Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, Policy, Parliamentary, or Congressional debate.

Speech/Public Speaking Coaches to teach any of the following speech events: Original Oratory, Expository, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous speaking, SPAR, and/or Impromptu.

Elementary speech and writing instructors for 2-3rd grades

Elementary introductory speech and argumentative writing instructors for grades 4th -5th

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour
