Barrios Technology is Hiring a Systems Engineer (Technical Lead) – Human Space Flight (SE&I) Near Houston, TX

Overview

Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Systems Engineer (Technical Lead) – Human Space Flight (SE&I) on the Human Space Flight Technical Integration (HSFTIC) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

HSFTIC supports multiple human spaceflight programs by providing products and services for mission and program technical integration activities. This includes the necessary infrastructure functions for the International Space Station (ISS), Orion and Gateway programs, with the potential for supporting additional human spaceflight programs or projects via task orders.

Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer (Technical Lead) – Human Space Flight (SE&I) will:

  • Utilize comprehensive understanding of the product life cycle to establish and lead SE&I performance initiatives for effective execution of concept trade studies, requirements management, test & verification, and modeling and analysis.
  • Apply systems engineering principles and techniques to establish and lead SE&I initiatives for requirements validation, product development, product integration, requirements verification, system validation, and hardware/software product deployment.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives that promote the progression of SE&I expertise within a more digitized SE&I environment which incorporates data digitization systems (DDS) including product life cycle management (PLM), requirements management (RM), and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches.
  • Establish and lead working relationships with NASA leads, requirement owners, and commercial teammates’ key personnel to gain their advocacy in the implementation of innovative data integration solutions for performing more efficient SE&I functions.
  • Mentor team members with implementation of SE&I activities such as requirements identification, verification and tracking, interface definition and Interface Control Document (ICD) development, working with design organizations and cross-functional teams, supporting development, integration, certification, and verification testing.
  • Provide comprehensive, technical systems knowledge and expertise during major project milestones and project reviews to lead SE&I teams through action resolution.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus fifteen (15) years of applicable and progressive engineering experience.
  • Applied knowledge of product life cycle development, sound systems engineering & integration principles, and strong working knowledge of associated engineering disciplines.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, verification, implementation, testing, integration, and validation of complex systems.
  • Knowledge of data digitization systems (DDS), tools, or initiatives that promote the digitization of the systems engineering & integration discipline.
  • Knowledge of Space Exploration programs, the International Space Station and its subsystems, along with one or more visiting vehicles and modules (Cygnus, Dragon, CST-100, Dream Chaser, HTV, Soyuz, Progress, Gateway, Axiom).
  • Extensive experience with innovation or process improvements projects and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).

Preferences:

  • INCOSE Certified System Engineering Professional (CSEP).
  • Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering (MSSE).
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software, JIRA or other similar tools.
  • Working experience with data digitization software (DDS) for systems engineering.
  • Working experience with DOORS requirements management software or other requirements management software.
  • Working experience with Rhapsody, MagicDraw, or other systems modeling software.
  • Working experience with Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD modeling suite.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
