Job Description:
Essential Functions:
The Project Engineer will be responsible for providing technical insight relating to utility-scale wind, solar power, and battery storage projects, as well as commercial and residential solar, for both debt and equity financings. Projects may include conventional power or emerging energy technologies as well. The Project Engineer’s advice will be a key factor in assessing financing opportunities and in making prudent investment decisions.
Assist Origination in pre-screening deals
Qualify equipment vendors and contractors for various project types including writing technical memoranda on the company reviewed
Visit project sites during construction and operation
Monitor portfolio projects and track availability, O&M expenses, and major technical issues
Assist the Portfolio Management team with construction monitoring and performance monitoring
Conduct detailed technical assessments regarding project feasibility and technical risks. Assessments will focus on design, construction, budget, contractual, and operating risks
Review project design specifications, project schedules, and construction methods to assess reasonableness and compliance with industry standards.
Verify technical and economic assumptions in project models, and work with deal teams to develop sensitivity analyses.
Work with consulting engineering firms.
Required Education:
Undergraduate degree in engineering (Electrical preferred, Civil, Mechanical, Power, or other energy-related disciplines), MS in Engineering or MBA preferred
Professional Engineer License preferred
Prior Work Experience:
Engineering skills with 5-10 years of proven experience
Experience with design, engineering, construction management, operation, and/or consulting for various energy projects
Required Skills:
Exceptional communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to work effectively and productively on several transactions or tasks simultaneously
Proven client management skills
25-50% Travel within US
Location: Providence, Boston, New York City, Charlotte, and San Francisco
