The OSP Engineer is responsible for developing broadband routes and advises on potential issues relating to code clearances, easement restrictions, permitting, etc. Initiates and maintains communication with property owners on the service route to ensure understanding of the project. Utilizes various industry software systems to effectively develop service plans and maintain mapping and customer records. Ensure communication with appropriate contractors on service plans and requirements for homes and businesses. Responsible for collaborating with other teams for documentation, training, and instruction requirements as needed.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Utilize Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping system to develop staking sheets for construction
  • Maintain ESRI-based Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping system
  • Perform field staking of the final route per Fiber to the Home (FTTH) design specifications
  • Perform verifications and updates to fiber counts on maps and records
  • Initiate and maintain contact with property owners on the service route to ensure understanding of the project
  • Ensure communication with contractors regarding design plans and requirements for service drops to homes and businesses

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:

1-3 years experience in fiber engineering and construction management; field construction management with preference to both inside and outside plant fiber construction.

Working Conditions:

The work environment for this position is typically a fast-paced indoor office setting. The individual in this position handles multiple tasks, performs complex or varied tasks, and must have precision and attention to detail. The individual in this position is responsible for direct control of their work pace and is under close supervision. Must be able to follow instructions and may be requried to work alone or in a group. This position requires the ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines while dealing with multiple tasks. The work schedule for this position may include irregular hours and overtime and may require travel.

Physical Requrirements:

The physical requirements for this position include the ability to perform sedentary work while frequently sitting in an office chair. In order to communicate with team members, read documents, and work with computer systems the individual in this position should have the ability to communicate verbally, eyesight including color vision, near vision, spatial perception, or other adequate means to effectively communicate and conceptualize information necessary to effectively perform job responsibilities.
