Position Summary
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for managing purchasing, shipping & receiving, inventory control, warehouse operations, and supply chain management including management of relationships with material, freight, freight forwarding, and service suppliers. As the company grows, the Supply Chain Manager will manage the growth in supply chain complexity: new suppliers, new BOMs, new SKUs, and related impacts to warehousing and shipping operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage Supply Chain department personnel including Buyers, Production Planner, Warehouse Supervisor, IQC and Warehouse Associates. Direct day-to-day activities of the Supply Chain department and assign tasks and goals for team members. Maintain Supply Chain department resource levels to support company needs and manage work schedules. Direct department staff to achieve performance to standard. Hire and train staff, complete performance reviews and handle performance management.
- Create and maintain Quality Management System documents related to supply chain functions and train department personnel as needed. Create and maintain documented processes for all material transaction processes. Ensure that supply chain processes meet ISO13485 and FDA Quality System requirements.
- Realize the implementation of an ERP system for sales order, work orders, materials transactions, and warehouse management. Act as the ERP system Master Data Owner. Transfer BOMs provided by Product Development into the ERP system and manage new raw materials and suppliers in the ERP system.
- Support product development teams by sourcing materials and providing cost and availability information. Interface with product development, manufacturing and accounting to develop product cost standards. Act as a team member coordinating and executing engineering changes, product line extensions, and new product launches. Ensure timely and orderly material and production flow transitions.
- Monitor the performance of suppliers and assess their ability to meet price, delivery and quality requirements. Identify and qualify new suppliers in collaboration with other departments. Negotiate raw material prices. Implement supplier scorecards and drive supplier corrective actions in response to quality and delivery issues.
- Manage relationships with freight and freight forwarding partners. Target timely sales order deliveries and provide timely delivery progress information to customer service.
- Own the Sales and Operations Planning Supply Review Process. Participate in Demand Review Process and work with Production groups to plan and execute a Supply Plan that supports the Demand Plan. Ensure that the Purchase Plan meets the Supply Plan. With manufacturing leaders, maintain a master production schedule. Manage inventory levels and provide purchasing forecasts to key suppliers.
- Oversee production planning against the master plan and ensure that production planning meets Supply Plan targets.
- Manage inventory to achieve high inventory turns while supporting continuous manufacturing operations. Maintain inventories to realize the Supply Plan. Maintain an inventory strategy for each material category and track performance against strategy, e.g., Kanban, safety stock, or lead-time and JIT defined inventory strategies. Forecast the forward rolling 90-day inventory to provide a spend forecast. Interface with Accounting to review and disposition excess and obsolete inventory on a quarterly basis.
- Maintain inventory accuracy through accurate material transactions. Train team member on proper material transaction processes. Watch for purchasing and material transaction errors and resolve transaction errors to properly reflect material and financial activity.
- Ensure that inventory cycle counts are performed and material count discrepancies are managed through reconciliation and adjustments. Plan and administrate an annual physical inventory.
- Maintain a continuous improvement plan for the Supply Chain department. Improve the purchasing, shipping & receiving, inventory control, and supply chain processes. Achieve efficient warehouse operations through improvements to warehousing processes and layout. Use lean manufacturing principles in supply chain operations. Drive continuous improvement of supply chain processes and assign improvement tasks to team members.
- Maintain supply chain performance metrics. Report Supply Chain metrics monthly and quarterly.
- Plan, execute, and communicate Supply Chain related projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience Required
- APICS CPIM certified or equivalent desired
- 5 years of experience in purchasing, production planning, materials management and inventory control (10 years preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- History of hands-on engagement with production planning and warehouse operations
- Track record delivering supply chain operations improvements
- Proficiency with ERP systems and spreadsheets
- Knowledge of freight and customs processes
- Demonstrated experience building and managing high performance teams
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
- Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Process Improvement
Working Conditions
Work carried out in office, warehouse, and clean manufacturing areas.
This role is fully onsite in our Durham, NC location.
Physical requirements
Ability to lift < 25 lbs occasionally to support warehouse team execution of warehouse improvement projects, inventory cycle counting, and annual physical inventory.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $100-$120/year DOE
